Rachel and Leslie's Food Fund

In mid- 2015 my Aunt Leslie was diagnosed with stage four cancer. In the last two years she has undergone countless surgeries, treatments, tests, and procedures with her wife, my Auntie Rachel at her side. Both Rachel and Leslie are compassionate, giving, warm people who go above and beyond for everyone they meet, starting with those closest to home. In addition to battling multiple types of advanced cancer, Rachel and Leslie are also the wonderful parents to two girls, both with substantial emotional, cognitive, and developmental special needs. Between the parenting stressors related due to the girl’s special requirements, Rachel’s full time career at New Balance, and the uphill battle of fighting Leslie’s cancer, Rachel and Leslie are tired. More than tired, they are exhausted, burnt out, and in need of some serious energy and love headed their way. And you can help send send love and energy their way from the comfort of your home!

After speaking to my Auntie Rachel, one of the most practical ways to support them at this point is to organize a meal/food support for them, as their demanding school, work, and treatment schedules don’t leave much time for anything else, including cooking. Unfortunately, Rachel and Leslie moved to their current community (Acton, MA) soon after Leslie was diagnosed for the first time. The balance of parenting, working, participating in treatment, and the downtime required to recover from treatments and surgeries, has not left much time for Rachel and Leslie to participate in their community. When the circumstances allow for it, they are fully engaged in heir community, as evidenced by their meaningful involvement in the special needs and Jewish communities and the light, passion, and love they have shared with everyone who is in these communities. However, due to the stressors they have been facing, there has not been any leftover time or energy to join these communities. The people who may have previously made home-cooked, meat free meals are not nearly as plentiful in their current community, as they were in their other residencies, like Providence. Instead we will be raising money for me to prepare fresh meals and deliver them to Rachel and Leslie once each week.

Through this process, I will be able to find and cook food that meets the dietary needs of Rachel, Leslie, and the girls, and have it delivered to their door, such that the hassles of planning, grocery shopping, and cooking are greatly decreased. In order to enact this plan, we are raising funds that will be used to purchase food from the grocery store and cooked into delicous meals, to have  delivered to Rachel and Leslie. Money will cover their specific food items and any sort of condiments/add ons needed to spice up the meal. There is nothing more difficult than a loved one battling cancer, and being able to help support Rachel and Leslie in even a small facet of their life, would mean the world to me. Please feel free to reach out to me, should you have questions. I can be contacted via email at [email redacted]
