SHe was transplanted in Aug of 2008, but unfortunately the liver she recieved was not functioning properly and she had NUMEROUS surgeries and treatments to make it last as long as possible. She has had her sole Thymoglobulin treatment thatshe is allowed, so we can not use that to slow this progression this time.
Rachael was born with Carolis disease, so she knew she would have a liver transplant one day, but never dreamed she would need two to live past 18. She turned 18 this year and has been in a state of liver failure all year. She is terribly jaundiced and not well. We are once again going through the process of getting her listed and hopefully as quickly as last time because she is incredibly ill. If we can get a live donor, then these funds will go toward that. If we have to be listed to get her a deceased donor, then her wait time is more critical and the funds will be used for that as well.
My husband and I had to file bankruptcy after the last transplant and we simply have no resources left. Gofundme could be our lifesaver.. hers and our whole family. It could also open the door to a live donor so she doesnt suffer longer and perhaps not receive a liver in time. This is the greatest fear we all have. I am of the wrong blood type, my husband is as well, and her father isnt well enough to donate. This is a desperate situation for a truly wonderful girl.
I would love to keep in touch if people want, give updates, videos, and progress with listing and her hospitalizations. We have to take her to St Louis for another liver biopsy likely next week, if her clotting factors are satisfactory, to compare to the last not only as a part of the listing process, but to try to determine how quickly this liver is dying. I am terrified to think of this.
