Find lost Airship, Fund Arctic Race

Hi! My Name is Sebastian. I work as a volunteer for the World Arctic Fund in Berlin. After graduating from the Technical University of Munich as an Aerospace Engineer I decided to put my skills to use for a heartfelt cause. But I need your help...

While Global Warming is changing the face of our planet, it enables a new class of expeditions on the Arctic Ocean. In August 2018, the "Airship Italia Search Expedition" will sail where no one has ever sailed before.
At 82° North, beyond the Polar Cycle, a crew of 22 explorers will document the effects of climate change to the Arctic and search for the remains of the Airship Italia, lost in 1928. National heroes of Norway and Italy like Roald Amundsen and Umberto Nobile where engaged in the flight of the Italia, leaving Amundsen missing eventually.
Now, 90 years later, we set sail to continue their quest of exploring the arctic while closing the gap between scientific research and public awareness for our ecosystem. Among the crew of filmmakers, sailors and scientists there are idealists and volunteers like me that keep the expedition rolling. As a young engineer, I know how crucial experiments are to build knowledge. In my opinion, insight is the key to keep our planet a place worth living.
Here are some impressions from our predecessor expedition of what we are determined to preserve:

This is where you can help:
As a former student, I know how challenging it can be to pursue great goals with limited funding. But I also learned that asking for support can be a true game changer. While I contribute my workforce to the goals of the expedition, there are aspects that are hard to come by with pure enthusiasm:
➤ It is mandatory to have a personal helicopter rescue insurance during the time of the expedition. I am missing around 3000 € for mine.
➤ The expedition starts in Northern Europe and I need to travel from/to the home port of the expedition. Flight to remote areas are expensive and are at about 1000 € for come and go.
➤ Sailing in the Arctic demands special clothing. Local equipment suppliers granted me discounts on their equipment, but I still need to raise about 1000 € in total for completing my three layers of clothing.
➤ It takes money to raise funds. This campaign costs about 500 €, once you beautiful people make it happen.
Good to know:
All funds are tax-deducable with the help of the World Arctic Fund. I am happy to help with that! You have doubts about putting funds on a website unknown to you? That's no problem. You can support me offline as well. I'll take care of the accounting then.
Why the expedition will leave an impact:
Among our expedition, there exist eight other initiatives out there that will be looking for the Airship's remains this summer. In fact, it's a race.
Doing a four week delivery of our Ship from Spain to Germany together with the Captain, I realized that we have the best chances to find the Airship first and that we have the means to prove it, once we claim we have. An Ice Breaker will support us in case the arctic summer ends earlier than we expected. The experiments are conducted by international researchers for a set of selected universities.
