Support a Kosher YA fantasy fiction novel!

Donation protected
I am a Rabbi and a journalist  but way before that, I was just a kid who loved great stories. I used to spend hours making up stories which I would share with my beloved siblings.  As I grew up, I noticed there were very few compelling Young Adult fantasy fiction novels with a narrative and values from my own people.

Now, I want to share my first book with the world! Will you join me to publish a story that will show the world that Torah is not boring but can be fun, exciting and relevant?!

You're invited to join with me to help publish a magical tale, full of adventure and superpowers, that features a Jewish child learning positive values from his heritage in a manner that can be appreciated by all faiths and backgrounds.

In DON JACQUES, a Sephardic Jewish family living in the time of the Spanish Inquisition must hide their identity and live as "Anusim " ("The Forced Ones"). Suddenly, their identity is exposed and they must fight for their freedom against  the Grand Inquisitor himself - only this story asks what would happen if the father of the family was a General in the Spanish Army and the Inquisitor was a sorcerer who could wield dark magic? Throw in pirates, demons, wolves, epic battles, super-powers and even romance and the reader is in for quite the ride!

This story, DON JACQUES, was born when I was a teacher in a Yeshiva in Montreal, Canada. My class consisted of 25 rambunctious pre-teen’s and I began to tell them this story to reward them for their academic achievements. Pretty soon, the story took on a life of its own and the moment I told them the last few sentences of “Don Jacques”, we had moved our “storytelling sessions” from the classroom into the home of one of the parents as food, snacks and all their friends crammed in for the exciting finale. Since then, I have told and re-told Don Jacques in schools, camps and communities around the world.

In this 100,000+ word novel, each chapter opens with a quote from the Torah, Talmud and famous thinkers of the Jewish people and highlights how these Torah thoughts can be a guiding light for any family during any time and place.  Along the way, the characters in the story learn what it means to be a hero, how to stand tall in the face of persecution and bullying, how to forgive, how to succeed, how to deal with corruption, and how to handle failure. Plus, they struggle with fundamental questions such as why bad things happen to good people, how to create unity in the face of divisiveness and  how to keep faith alive under the most trying of circumstances.

When I shared the rough draft with some children I know, they told me they "loved it!" and that it was "like a Jewish Harry Potter!"

Allocation of Funds

The highly professional and experienced team at Mosaica Press is enthusiastic about my book. They say that there is nothing like it in the Jewish world. In their words:

"There is a real need for inspirational historical youth fiction, and this story fills a great need. We think it is apt for both the religious and not-religious Jewish world. There are so few books out there like this for Jewish teens and that's such an important age to reach these days. Your manuscript has potential to excite a wide variety of teens."

Transparency is important. Therefore, I'd like to share with you the details of where the raised funds will be allocated (all numbers are approximate):

50% --> Content edit, copy-edit, historical research, proofread, straight-read, interior design, cover design, project management, and much more.
30% --> Printing the first 1,000 copies of my book and coordinating their distribution to bookstores worldwide.
10% --> Perk fulfillment, such as shipping your book directly to your home.
10% --> Campaign fees, including credit card processing and miscelleneous.

 Project Risks

You should feel comfortable knowing that there is very limited risk associated with this project. My book is already completed, an experienced publisher is committed to the project and many people (especially pre-teens!) have expressed interest in my story.

The project is moving forward and your contribution will help it reach the printer much faster!
