</div>
<div>This July, the Spanish far-right party VOX, took to court eight neighbours from Raval, a diverse neighbourhood of Barcelona, for supposed "hate crimes". They demanded large fines and 6 year prison sentences following a local protest against VOX's racism.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The accused included David Karvala, a spokesperson of Unity Against Fascism and Racism (UCFR), the sister movement in Catalunya of Stand Up to Racism. The accusation made it clear that this is why he was put on trial.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The other seven neighbours were defended by an established antirepression campaign, which has its own funding. UCFR had to take on David's defence.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Following the 7 day trial, UCFR's lawyer achieved the withdrawal of all charges against him, but UCFR has to pay €4,000 in legal fees, which is money that the movement cannot afford.

</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
