Romania: Revolution 1989
is a full-length opera with words and music by American composer Aaron Garber. Using modern, everyday language, the opera movingly tells the story of the demise of Romania's tyrannical dictator and his equally despicable wife. The historical events surrounding the revolution are told through the eyes of a fictitious family and are made extra poignant by the shifting points of view. Loving parents, their rebellious twenty-three-year-old son and sweetly innocent twin daughters take turns narrating the action. The family's voices are interspersed with those of government officials, police and clergy and are delivered in unforgettable melodies. With these arias set against the backdrop of a powerful orchestral score, the terror of the tyranny the Romanian people endured will not be forgotten.
You can take part in this 30th anniversary celebration of freedom from tyranny in Romania and affirm your support of freedom worldwide.
