Starting Monday, March 21 the full team of Limerick-based dog grooming company Prestige Dog Grooming are challenging themselves to a 600K walkathon in aid of Limerick Animal Welfare.
The goal for the team at Prestige is to complete 600K through walking or running over 6 weeks while fundraising for Limerick Animal Welfare. Eight staff members are taking part in the walkathon.
Prestige Dog Grooming has been grooming dogs of the Midwest over the last decade. They offer a mobile service with fully equipped mobile salons and an in house grooming and spa experience. They originally started covering the Limerick area but have since reached out further to most of Munster and some parts of Leinster and a newly opened salon in Ballysimon at their head office.
Prestige Dog Grooming commented, “a lot of our customers would have rescue dogs and that’s why we chose Limerick Animal Welfare as our chosen charity for the walkathon. We see where the dogs come from, and we get to know a lot of their stories and what they go through.”
“On the other hand, we have to do rehabilitation with them regarding grooming, because some of them don’t trust people too much because of the start they’ve had in life. We work with a huge amount of rescue dogs and it’s lovely to see they end up in loving homes, it’s a slow process and we know Limerick Animal Welfare is a very deserving charity.”
Limerick Animal Welfare was founded in 1983 and helps thousands of previously unwanted dogs, cats, horses, goats, and a wide range of other animals until they find their “forever home.”
They operate a ‘no kill’ policy and provide a safe haven for unwanted or abandoned animals up until they find a safe and permanent home for them.
In 2007, Limerick Animal Welfare embarked on one of their biggest projects throughout their journey by building, staffing, and running a purpose-built animal sanctuary in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick. Animals for rehoming are cared for at the sanctuary and visitors are welcomed Monday to Sunday 7 days a week from 11 am to 3 pm.
Their very first isolation kennel for abandoned dogs opened in December 2007 just before Christmas.
The sanctuary spays/neuters all dogs and cats and assesses them for any medical needs before they are rehomed. At any one time, the sanctuary cares for up to 200 animals including 70 dogs, 60 cats, horses, goats, rabbits, chickens, and the occasional exotic animal. All of the animals in care receive expert veterinary care, nurture, and some old-fashioned TLC while they await a new beginning.
The vast majority of their funding comes from the generosity of Limerick people, organisations, through on-street fundraising and through income from their Limerick city charity shops, which are staffed by volunteers.
Limerick Animal Welfare operates three stores in Limerick located on William Street, Parnell Street and Parnell Street Furniture shop. 100% of funds raised go directly to fund Limerick Animal Welfare.
“Thank you to Prestige Dog Grooming for doing 600K in 6 weeks and best of luck to all the girls taking part. Thank you for raising these much-needed funds for Limerick Animal Welfare,” said Lisa Doherty, Assistant Manager of Limerick Animal Welfare.
