Please Help Our Rescued Pit Bull

Hello Everyone. My name is Sara, and I am raising money for my sister and brother in law's Pit Bull, Rex. My sister Becca and her husband Jeff, lost their dog unexpectedly to cancer about 4 years ago. It devastated them both and for the longest time, their hearts were closed to the idea of caring for another pet. In early June, my sister came across a post on Facebook from a dog rescue center that was urgently in need of a foster home for a one year old Pit Bull, named Rex. He was at risk for being euthanized if they couldn't find him a foster home because he was a challenging case. His previous home environment was toxic for Rex. He was the runt of the litter and had many scars on his body from dog fights and possibly physical abuse. This trauma has made him sensitive and distrusting of other dogs and children. My sister saw Rex's story and couldn't say no to helping this innocent, beautiful soul.

The day they met was love at first sight for both my sister and her husband. Rex instantly gravitated to them and was incredibly loving and affection with them both. He stole their hearts that day and it didn't take long for them to decide to adopt him and give him a forever home. It's been incredible to see the amount of joy Rex has brought into their lives. The way they both light up when interacting with Rex or when talking about him, is heart warming. Their bond with Rex doesn't replace the loss of their dog Sky, but Rex has provided them the connection they've been missing for so long. He's filled them with gratitude and has brought laughter and endless cuddles into their home. Rex is such a gentle, sweet soul and with everything he's been through, and all he's given our family (because I fell in love at first sight too) we want to give him the best quality of life he can have.

Unfortunately,  Rex show's common signs of physical trauma. He gets very alert and uneasy when other dogs or children are present, and fixates on them to the point that we can't get his attention no matter how we correct him. He's unexpectedly charged at children and some adults. He also has nightmares and even yelps in his dreams. My sister and her husband recently expressed their desire to take him to a dog psychology center to help him heal from his trauma and hopefully relearn how to be in harmony with other dogs and children. They adore Rex and would love to be able to travel with him, have children that will bond with him, and take him to public places with out fear that he, another dog, or child, will get harmed. We hope taking him to a psychology center will help them achieve this dream for their family and drastically improve the quality of Rex's life. The cost is a lot for them to take on by themselves and so I thought perhaps other animal lovers out there, and Pit Bull lovers could aide us in rehabilitating this incredible, gentle, loving being. I thank you for your time and your support.
