Living With Asperger’s is an organisation dedicated to improving the life experience of those living with Asperger’s, and the people around them.
LWA was born from one man’s experience of the challenges that living with Asperger’s presents. Not the internal difficulties of living with the condition, but the challenges created by an outside world that simply isn’t equipped to recognise and understand what Asperger’s is, or to appreciate what those with the condition have to offer.
Will Evans wasn’t correctly diagnosed with Asperger’s until 2010. Until that turning point, Will had suffered at the hands of a society that labels Asperger’s as a “behavioural problem”. He was unable to access the support he desperately needed, and was told that he would never lead a “normal” independent life. Will was even left homeless as a result of this failure in the system.
But now things are different.
Through Living with Asperger’s, set up in September 2013, Will and his small but dedicated team are making powerful strides towards ridding society of the stigma attached, through lack of understanding, to
Our goal is to Enlighten, Inspire and Motivate society to embrace those with Asperger’s and to help them to fulfil their true potential.
So, Why Do We Need Funding?
Living With Asperger’s was started with an investment of £20,000 of Will’s own money. Our original method was to work closely with people with Asperger’s, and funding came from the DWP. However, our focus now
is on working with and supporting businesses and organisations to ensure the fair treatment of those with Asperger’s as a signposting and consultancy firm. This work does not qualify for DWP funding.
Free talks and presentations, free 1-2-1 consultations, and free advice … not to mention marketing costs, website maintenance, travel and the other expenses involved in running a business, are funded in large part
directly from Will’s pocket.
We want to see Living With Asperger’s grow and make huge positive changes to the way those with
Asperger’s are viewed and treated by society. We want to see an end to the discrimination and
misunderstanding that those with Asperger’s face.
We never want to see another person with Asperger’s forced into homelessness because they aren’t able to access the support they are entitled to.
With your help, and your donation, we can continue to spread the word far and wide … making a real
difference to real people. We can educate businesses, local councils, healthcare providers and society at
large, to ensure they know how to recognise and deal with those with Asperger’s.
If you or someone you care about have been affected by Asperger’s, if you have benefitted from our services in the past and would like to give something back - or if you just believe that society can change for the better - then please make a donation today to support our work.
