Hello everyone. Everything seems to be moving extra fast this time with me getting a transplant. So, I am going to give this another shot. My name is Darryl Concepcion and I’m a 50 year-old man on dialysis with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. For the past 8½ years, I’ve been on dialysis with no end in sight. Fortunately, my luck has seemed to turn and I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. My chances of getting a kidney transplant are nearly coming to fruition. I recently had gastric sleeve surgery to lose some much needed weight, with the goal of eliminating my type 2 diabetes, and, hopefully, my high blood pressure as well. If all goes as planned, I will be healthy enough for placement on a kidney transplant list.
I am coming to you today because, in order to be eligible for placement on a kidney transplant list, you not only have to be healthy but you also have to prove you can afford the costs associated with post-surgery. Medicare’s co-pay for some of the post-surgery medications are pretty expensive ,along with other medical expenses not covered by Medicare , and, 36 months after surgery, Medicare drops the insurance portion that pays for the post-surgery medication. I will be eternally grateful for any support financially to help better my chances for placement on the kidney transplant list.
A kidney transplant will eliminate my need for dialysis, which will allow me to go back to work again and earn a living for myself. My passion is cooking and I hope to one day return to that as a way to earn a living and make myself whole again. If I can qualify for surgery and receive a new kidney, it would give me a second lease on life and help better it as a whole. I’m so thankful for all the help and support I’ve received through the past 8½ years and I’m so grateful to have such wonderful friends. I thank God every day for giving me this second chance at life. The past 8½ years have been really rough but, with God’s help, I think I made it out pretty well.
