Drey's Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Donation protected
De’Aundrey is a 38 year old Deputy Sheriff Master who was experiencing shoulder pain for about a month and treated by several doctors with pain killers and muscle relaxers, but the pain would not go away. Finally blood work was ordered and the results sent De’Aundrey to see an Oncologist.  The Oncologist ordered a full body CT scan and a bone marrow biopsy. On Wednesday April 8, 2015 De’Aundrey received a call that would change his life forever. The results were in.  De’Aundrey was diagnosed with Leukemia.  The doctor told him and his wife to pack his bags immediately.  His hospital room would be ready at his arrival.  For the next thirty days he would be hospitalize at Northside Hospital BMT and undergo aggressive chemotherapy with his wife by his side.

The doctor explained the type of leukemia De’Aundrey has is called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia also known as ALL.  The doctor explained that ALL is very aggressive and if left untreated, the life expectancy for a person diagnosed with ALL is approximately two months.  The second day of being in the hospital, De’Aundrey was given another bone marrow biopsy.  The results of the second biopsy showed that De’Aundrey carried a chromosome called the Philadelphia chromosome, which meant, he must have a bone marrow transplant.  Statistically, after eight rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation, ALL is known as the cancer that will regenerate after an unspecified amount of time if a bone marrow transplant is not done. The doctor explained that De’Aundrey had a twenty percent chance of finding a donor due to the fact that very few minorities donate bone marrow.  After being released from the hospital with specific instructions of no outside contact, De’Aundrey was scheduled for clinic visits everyday at Northside Hospital Cancer Center.  After receiving four rounds of the eight scheduled rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, De’Aundrey also received radiation twice a day. During a clinic visit, surprisingly De’Aundrey was told they found a 100% match from BeThe Match worldwide registry.  On Saturday, July 18, 2015, De’Aundrey received a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor.

De’Aundrey is a husband and a father of four children ages 19, 14, 11, and 8.  They reside in Hampton, Ga, but will have travel, hospital, and doctor's office expenses, along with follow up treatments that will include more bone marrow biopsies and other test.  Since April 2, 2015 De’Aundrey has been unable to work or have public contact due to his low immune system. Since his diagnosis and bone marrow transplant De’Aundrey has been in and out of the hospital due to several infections and complications. He has tried to remain positive and upbeat by continuing to trust God in all of his trials and tribulations.  Drey remains focused on his testimony by doing what he loves, which is, teaching and reading God's word and impacting the lives of others through his tremendous faith. Due to the high cost of insurance and other medical expenses, De’Aundrey has already begun to accrue large amounts of debt and will be unable to work until he has fully recovered. With this GoFundMe account we are trying to help alleviate some of this financial burden and allow him and his family to focus on fighting, and beating this cancer.
