Caring for Cory

My mother is a warrior.  She was given one to three months to live after being diagnosed with terminal cancer at age 48:in May 2010.  Ha.  Mom never did believe in complying with expectations!!  Sadly, she is now succumbing to her disease, and she needs your help.  Please consider giving Cory your prayers and support "“ every little bit helps and is deeply appreciated.

Cory was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in 1999 at age 37.  She had a mastectomy, underwent equally aggressive chemo and radiation, and by God's grace continued to be cancer-free for ten years.  In May 2010, she saw her doctor after some nagging hip pain grew worse and made walking difficult.  We were devastated to learn that her original cancer had metastasized with a vengeance and formed tumors in her hip, femur, pelvis, liver, lung, eye, and skull.  Her left hip was about to crumble, so she had a full hip and femur replacement, and amazed her doctors with her rapid recovery and high spirits. Mom began chemo and radiation, and three months gradually became a year and then two.  She worked full-time until only three months ago "“ she is truly a miracle!

In February 2012, Mom suddenly lost function in her lower leg and quickly deteriorated. The cancer had spread to her brain, and whole-brain radiation has not helped.  These last few months the cancer has continued to spread; she is blind in one eye and has very limited vision in the other, she is numb from the waist down and requires a brace to walk with her dropped foot, and has debilitating nausea from the swelling in her brain.  Mom has been hospitalized the last two months and will spend the short time she has left in a skilled nursing facility.

While the majority of her medical expenses are taken care of, there is still a substantial amount that we are struggling to cover.  Basic things like the (very expensive!) orthopedic shoes that fit the braces and enable our mom to walk without tripping and falling over her foot aren't covered.  We hope to provide our mom with these and other needs not covered by insurance, and to pay for the funeral that will sadly be necessary.

My mother spent her life working tirelessly to serve others and would gladly give a stranger the shirt off her back.  She wouldn't dream of asking for anything for herself, so I'm asking for her. We just want our mom's last days to be spent in relative comfort, dignity, and peace.  Will you bless her with your generosity?  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!
