Help Me Graduate College
Economic collapse in Lebanon
Banks implementing illegal restrictions in Lebanon
Hi,
My name is Maria. I am a Lebanese student currently studying art history and global communications at the American University of Paris. I am just two semesters away from my expected graduation in May 2021, but due to the economic crisis and financial collapse in Lebanon, I am unable to pay my tuition or even my rent until I graduate.
Lebanon is currently in the midst of the worst financial crisis in its history. Banks have put into place illegal “capital control” methods banning people, including my parents, from withdrawing money from their own bank account. Furthermore, they have completely banned international wire transfers, even with a justification (to pay tuition or rent). My parents cannot send me money anymore. Out of nowhere, my life is collapsing, and I don’t know who to turn to.
I currently have two jobs, as a babysitter and English tutor. However, as a foreign student, I am not allowed to work full time in France, and I can’t possibly pay my tuition, my rent and all my living expenses on minimum wage part-time jobs.
My country is falling apart. Please help me graduate from university so that I can have a future.
Thank you!
