Ketamine Infusion Therapy for TRD - (Depression)

I don't know how to start. I think the best way is to start at the broadest degree of what's going on, fill in the whole picture. I am choosing to do so to market myself as best as possible, after all this is the premise of gofundme. Also I feel obligated to reintroduce myself in a way. First though, there aren't going to be any pictures of me in a state of illness, as its something that can't be encapsulated in that manner and as you may have noticed my presence online is pretty dead. This translates to the way I live as well, I don't have much informal documentation of my existence but again there isn't a way to capture my struggles by images and such.

My name Is Josh and I’m seeking support to fund Ketamine Infusion Therapy. I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADD/ADHD, OCD, mild Insomnia, and Central Sensitization (and under this, fibromyalgia). Currently, I am on Fluoxetine (for Depression and Anxiety), Vyvanse (for ADD/ADHD), Lyrica, and Naltrexone (micro dosage). It is also important to note that I have S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder) as well, which is a seasonal depression that makes its home in Winter. Psychiatric medications do not work on me. I have been on 10 (possibly one or two more) psychiatric medications. I have essentially been on almost every antidepressant available on the medical market. I have been to genuinely 100 sessions of therapy. I am now classified as having Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD).

I have suffered from Depression and Anxiety for as long as I have had memories for, so since I was six-seven years old. I have a lot of holes in my memory and with ADHD my short-term memory is completely lacking. The support I get is very scarce. I am registered on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) and I get the maximum monthly allowment of $1,169.00 a month. Due to the severity of my afflictions, I cannot work. I have been advised by Doctors not to. I also use OSAP to pay for tuition, I go to Western University in London, Ontario. I am pursuing the module for Creative Writing and English Literature and Language. Right now I am a part-time student.

Late August I started getting my referral for a novel treatment to treat my depression. What I need is known as Ketamine Infusion Therapy. I had my consultation with the CRTCE the last week of September. Ketamine Therapy is known for prying people out from the grip of Depression. The first four sessions take place over two weeks and cost $3,400.00 which I will have to pay for in advance out of pocket. After that, it has been ascertained that I will need weekly 'booster' shots. It is $850 per session. Unfortunately, I'm also being forced to hire someone to be there with me. I am not allowed to be without a guardian/friend/supervisor. I will have to hire a PSW (personal service worker). My first session is November 3rd, a day after I turn 21. Insurance does not cover Ketamine Infusion Therapy because it is an "off-label" treatment, it is not approved by the FDA. It has been approved in the U.S for 10 years now. The math works out to a year of Ketamine Infusion Therapy costing $45,900.00. On top of that, there will be the hire costs. If after the first four sessions it is deemed I might actually only need it every 2 weeks then one year of treatment alone will cost $24,650.00. This is only a year time frame. How long I will need this treatment for is indefinite.

Whilst Ketamine is only used to treat TRD, it is also known to help with chronic pain, PTSD, personality disorders, and OCD. I'm really hoping I can treat my chronic pain and depression through Ketamine Infusion Therapy. I have been fighting for a really long time. This ketamine therapy is the last thing I have. It is the most effective and successful in treating TRD patients. Mental health is a very complicated interwoven system. I will still be on antidepressants and going to therapy during Ketamine Infusion Therapy. Being able to reduce my Depression, if not properly dissolve most of it through this treatment, will put me in a position I have never experienced before. The fight would get so much easier. I would be able to enjoy living.

I am looking at every community that I have been a part of - Our Lady of Wisdom, St. Michael's Choir School, St. Patrick's Parish, Brookside, Toronto's Children's Chorus, Leacock C.I, Western University. I humbly ask all of you to please consider helping in any way that you can. It would mean the world to me.
