Two weeks ago my husband, Jeff Day, was asked by the residents of Parkview Apartments in Wilmington, DE to help shed light on the unsafe and unsanitary conditions they were being forced to live with at their apartment complex. After he successfully helped arrange a meeting Thursday October 22 between the residents, Wilmington Housing Authority Commissioners, building management, and other elected officials he attempted to enter the meeting he helped organize. Upon his arrival, as can be seen in the video, he was forcefully told he was not going to be allowed in. After engaging Matt Meyer, our County Executive who aided he and the residents in arranging the meeting, he attempted to enter a second time. The situation quickly devolved into violence. He stepped in between to separate two individuals in an attempt to prevent a senior from being assaulted and was struck in the face. He then grabbed the assailant, also evident in the video, in an attempt to prevent from being continually assaulted. He was then punched in the back of the head multiple times. After being the only individual handcuffed he was released and requested assault charges be filed against his assailant. Fast forward four days ahead, to Monday Oct. 26, the officer who spoke with him after the incident notified him that charges were also being filed against him. He turned himself in Tuesday evening and was given a  court date for THIS FRIDAY. He has less than 72 hours to retain legal council and raise funds for said council. Our family appreciates anything you can share to aid us in clearing these charges. He is a Good Samaritan who was trying to help seniors in his community, we as a family now ask for your help.
