"Talking To Strangers " Mom & Daughter Documentary

Donation protected
My 10 year old daughter and I have an idea.

We want to travel the country, an Americana road trip across the highways and byways, through cities and farmlands, and talk to as many strangers as we can.

Why?

Right now in this country, with everything that’s going on, we think we should do something radical and actually talk to the strangers around us, rather than fear them. No matter what our background, where we’re from, what we look like… we have so much more in common than we have differences.

We want to shoot a documentary starring the people of this country, in all their varieties and complexities. One that focuses on connections, that unites us rather than divides us. No matter our different backgrounds, skin colors, genders, age, and everything in between.

So, the plan is to take a month and drive through as many states as we can from California to Florida and back. We will stop at diners, national parks, kitch-y vendors, historical sites, college campuses, as much variety as we can find. And along the way we hope to interview and film as many people that are willing to share a little about themselves.

Let me tell you a little about us. I am a video professional (camera/editing/graphics... nerd) working out of Northern California. Last year, we began homeschooling my daughter (she’s a wonderful weirdo, like me, but was struggling in the public school setting) so I had to quit my job to stay home with her.  At first it was a challenge and a bit scary, even. But now we’ve discovered how freeing it is, and that we have the ability to learn from wherever we are, not just in a classroom. We decided to do a road trip together. But the two of us being who we are, we couldn’t stop there… (My daughter is creative like me, compassionate, has a strong sense of justice, a big thinker. I want to show her that she has the power to take action to make the world a better place, to not be afraid to take risks.) ...So we decided to work on a documentary together. Something that makes the world better, makes people feel a little happier, more connected.

This is our cause.

We need your help to make this happen. While I have a very bare-bones setup for filming, and we’ll be scrappy and resourceful with what we’ve got, it would be truly wonderful if we could raise some funds for proper filming gear rentals, transportation costs and the like to make our dream a reality.

…That’s where you come in. Would you please consider donating a little to help us get this off the ground? It would mean so much to me and my daughter. I think it is  a lovely and necessary message to spread, especially today, this year, with the country so divided. Let’s mend that divide and remind people that we are more alike than different. That we are all connected by our humanity.

Help me teach my daughter to talk to strangers!
...And to remind people through this documentary that we should all do the same.
