"Feathers" Illustrated Book Printing Fund

My name is Alia and I would love your support to self-publish my first illustrated book for teens and adult: "Feathers". I illustrated this during the first months of the pandemic, as a creative project to get me mentally through the insanity, It developed into telling a universal story of figuring out ones identity, and our struggles with anxiety, depression, or expectations when we believe we are strange or alone.

It originally was made for a close friend at the time, who had expressed their struggles and story of discovering and trying to accept themselves. I was so moved by the openness of what they went through that I wrote it out, drew the images and printed a single copy (via expensive Shutterfly for their birthday). Though I no longer am close with that person, these first months of the "pandemic" in California helped me also get into the mindset of my own self-discovery of identity. Even if the story doesn't speak to you as a whole, I feel like there is at least one image that you can relate to in regards to your own journey!

Because of the situation brought on by the pandemic I found myself without a home and staying with friends for 3 months and struggling to find a place to live. In July 2020, I quit my decent paying job (4 years) put whatever I could into my car and drove within 3 insane days home to Pennsylvania to live with my parents.
I've been still struggling to get a consistent job that can help me pay for my bills and insane student loan payments. I'm just getting by to pay those things but I'm unable to catch up and put enough on the side to publish this book, so I can properly get my food in the door with illustrating more books, and truly working on jobs that use my passion of art/storytelling/illustration.
So where does the $900 request come in?
-Printing about 50 soft cover books to get proper reviews and spread the word.
-Print about 50 proper hardcover books for larger online distribution.
- 2 sample prints of the prototype.
-copyrights
-ISBN code registration
-amazon posting
-advertising the book to be sold
-advertising my work and start getting consistent commissions and to continue making purchasable and publishable products
-sending a few high quality copies to other publishing companies to get them interested.
-Help pay for my project editing program
I truly want to be able to have the physical copies of the book available for people to purchase and share with others and kickstart my career, by the winter holidays.
