"Even Miracles Take a Little Time”

Greetings!  Our names are Troy and April Willerton; we have been married since December 2014 and have been eagerly trying to plan a family.  However, after four years of trying, it appears as though it is just not in the cards for us to conceive the “traditional way”.

Troy is a 39 year-old Electrician and I am a 33 year-old Correctional Peace officer. I have a 12 year-old son from a prior relationship, and we both love him more than life, but would love to add to our family and bring more children into the world with each other.

After trying naturally for over a year, we sought help with my OB/GYN who sent us both for all of the testing they do for fertility issues.  Both of our tests came back normal, but even so I was put on clomid for 5 months which was really hard on my body; I suffered with a few side effects, but I was willing to go through it if it worked!  Sadly, the clomid did not work for us, so we were referred to a fertility specialist at the Calgary Regional Fertility Clinic.  Our specialist is amazing, and he started us on three rounds of IUI (Intrauterine Insemination).  Each round we did cost us approximately $500, between both the procedure and the new hormones I was put on.  We did this for three months, so spent approximately $1500, not including travel costs.  Once again, this did not work for us and we were officially “labelled” in the ‘Unexplained Infertility’ category.  After some consultation with our specialist, he gave us two options:
Do three more rounds of the IUI, but with injections and more hormones, which would cost us approximately $1500 each time at a 20% success rate.  Or, we could try IVF (Invitro Fertilization), which is a 60% success rate, but would cost us $12,000-$15,000.  With the IUI already being unsuccessful for us, and with a lower success rate we decided to try the IVF.  We were worried another $5,000 might go towards a treatment that has already been unsuccessful for us, when we could put that money towards IVF.

Between the treatments we have already done, the Ovulation Predictor Kits, Pregnancy tests, medications, and travel expenses, the finances have started to become a strain for us.  We have also tried acupuncture, homeopathic remedies, chiropractor, fertility teas/vitamins, etc.   In a few years, age will start to become a factor for me and fertility treatments are not covered by the Alberta government.  This will take us some time to save and we are asking for any help we can!  We appreciate you taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Troy and April
