After spending the weekend at home in Pottsboro with his family, Celestino "Cruz" DeLaCruz was returning to San Antonio for work when he was involved in a devastating automobile accident that will alter his and his family's lives forever.
He was not expected to survive the first night but after twelve agonizing hours and the heroic efforts of his doctors and nurses, he began making improvements.
Cruz suffered catastrophic head trauma after being ejected from his vehicle and hitting a tree. He lost an ear and one of his eyes at the scene of the accident, and has bleeding in his brain. He also has multiple facial fractures and body fractures and many other injuries. Surgeons were able to reattach his ear but were unable to save his eye. It is still unknown if his other eye will be viable and they will be unable to know until the swelling goes down and he regains consciousness. It is very possible that he will be permanently blinded from the trauma. He has undergone two days of surgeries to help repair his injuries and has many more surgeries ahead of him.
Cruz is in the ICU at the University Hospital in San Antonio on a ventilator where he will remain indefinitely. Michelle and the DeLaCruz children need our help to keep their home intact and allow for Michelle and the kids to be near the hospital while Cruz faces the fight of his life and the long and painful road to his recovery ahead. Michelle has had to take a leave of absence from her job to be available to make the hard medical decisions and consents for Cruz's many needs.
We are asking for help to raise funds to cover the family's expenses for a least 60 days while they determine what their future will hold. Please help support them in this time of need.
Cruz and Michelle have six children:
Jacob, married and living in Purcell, Oklahoma
Christopher, just graduated from college
Eric, serving in the US ARMY
Adrian, just graduated high school
Anthony, a junior in high school at Pottsboro, Texas
and Tessa, a freshman in high school at Pottsboro, Texas
