ABOUT OUR NEW CD, "A THOUSAND SMOKY NIGHTS"

Hey folks ! Me and the Long Gone Daddys recently finished our latest full-length recording of new material, "A Thousand Smoky Nights.”  We also recorded it at a studio that’s new to us - Stages Music Arts in Cockeysville, MD – with our long-time engineer and co-producer Dave Nachodsky.  The sessions were great, and they're gonna give you everything you want and expect from an Arty Hill record: danceable, rompin’ stompin’ barroom tunes, full of snapping Telecaster and crying steel, plus a ballad or two to bring a beery tear to your eye !

In the last few years, playing more gigs with the Long Gone Daddys in and around my home city of Baltimore has allowed us to really polish our show.  In fact, most of the tracks for this cd were recorded in just a couple days, so even though it’s a studio recording, it sure has that “live” feel.  You’ll recognize some of the tracks as staples of our recent live shows: “A Twang Coming on,” “Big Wheel,” “Truck Stop Preacher,” and a song that's become a fan favorite, “Scrapple and Wine.”   Some others you may not have heard before - “A Girl Singing Jolene,” “The Last Foolish Thing, and “I Wrote this Song in a Dirty Motel” – but we like them a lot, and we think you will too.  We also included a version of “Mascara Tears,” written with my friend Linda Hill a few years back and originally recorded by the great rockabilly and torch singer Marti Brom.  The new version has a different arrangement and is sung by special guest Michelle Hannan, who does a great job on it.

All in all, we’re really proud of the songs, swing, and hardcore honky tonk heartaches in “A Thousand Smoky Nights” and look forward to sharing it with our many friends and fans !

WHAT I NEED AND WHAT YOU GET

Speaking of fans - we owe a lot to the wonderful fans who pay to come to our gigs, and who purchase cds and downloads of our music.  Because of their ongoing support, we had enough money pay for the studio, musicians, and CD artwork in full.  But as you know, this is a difficult time for musicians, as live gigging has pretty much come to a standstill.  So we’re asking for your help to fund the release and promotional campaign.  Your contribution will pay for cd replication; radio and press promotion; mailing costs; promotional photos; plus t-shirts. posters and stickers, which we'll giving as premiums to those of you who donate.  We want to release the CD in early 2021, so as we’re meeting our fundraising goal we'll get the cds, posters and t-shirts printed so they’re ready to go when the time comes to ship.

In addition to downloads, CDs, posters and stickers, we have some other cool premiums, including: a Zoom lesson with me, a 1 hr solo Zoom concert by me, where you choose the setlist; and a socially-distanced, outdoor concert by me and Tim Pruitt for you and up to five friends.  I’m also offering to make you a co-writer – I’ll take your song idea, write it, and record a guitar/vocal demo !

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP

In these tough times, asking folks to contribute to a musical project is a big ask.  And for those of you who can’t afford to donate right now, I understand completely, and appreciate you taking the time just to read this.  If you choose not to buy into my program, you can still help “A Thousand Smoky Nights” and support my music by spreading the word on social media, streaming my music, and attending shows when live gigs resume.

Many thanks !
