We Need Your Help to Build a Unique Garden with Heart to Inspire All Calgarians!
April 2020 will mark the 6th anniversary of the loss of our children. The lives of five inspiring young adults (Lawrence Hong, Joshua Hunter, Kaiti Perras, Zackariah Rathwell and Jordan Segura) were lost on April 15, 2014 in the quiet suburban neighbourhood of Brentwood in Calgary. My name is Loris and Kaiti is my step-daughter. Since this time, our five families have come together along with an amazing group of volunteers to design a project that will give back to our community and acknowledge the incredible support we received after losing our children and let others know that beyond tragedy and loss, there is light.
Quinterra Legacy Garden will be an interactive musical garden and performance space that reflects hope, possibility, creativity and the life-affirming qualities that each of our five amazing children embodied. Located in South Glenmore Park , this amenity will become Calgary’s first fully dedicated music garden and performance space. It will be accessible to Calgarian’s of all ages and will include interactive musical and play elements along with a 30-foot diameter stage for programming including music, dance, theatre, spoken word, yoga, meditation, healing circles, etc.
The garden will include elements representing the five lives lost, reflecting each of their personalities through the arts and design. Visitors to the garden will feel a sense of discovery and play, inspiration, creativity, reflection, contemplation and a sense of well-being. Design elements embrace motifs representing the number five – five branches, leaves and roots in the garden logo; a five-pointed star on the stage; and five chairs placed in front of the five flowering trees planted in the garden...

We have been humbled to receive support and assistance in our planning from the City of Calgary, Parks Department. They have allowed us to build our vision on the outstanding location of South Glenmore Park overlooking the Glenmore Reservoir. With design help from Bassett Associates Landscape Architecture, our vision has come to life. We've also received support from Naheed Nenshi (City of Calgary, Mayor) and received traditional native blessings from Bruce Starlight (Tsuut'ina Language Commissioner for the Tsuut'ina Nation) at our groundbreaking ceremony which took place on June 12th, 2019...
Our ultimate goal is to raise $750,000 to make Quinterra Legacy Garden a reality. So far, we have raised over $350,000 in donations and grants from generous corporate donors and the public. Fundraising will be directed towards covering the project’s capital costs, a maintenance endowment required by the City of Calgary, Parks Department, contingency and programming costs.
