Quinten's Care/Transportation
Quinten, age 16, was pretty seriously injured in a hiking accident in Marquette, Michigan while camping with friends. He fell nearly 20 feet off a cliff landing (thank GOD) on his feet. Sadly, the injuries to his ankles are pretty catastrophic, unlike anything the doctors had seen before. He also broke three vertebrae in his back. He will be essentially immobile for weeks to come and wheelchair bound for months. He will require multiple surgeries to repair the damage done. And will be in inpatient rehabilitation to learn how to adapt to his new life.
Quinten was an all star baseball player, and is a huge social butterfly getting ready to enter his sophomore year at Grandville High School. He's a great kid who is strong and outgoing and amazing at advocating for himself. Being isolated from his friends/classmates will be challenging for him.
Our family is currently separated by 7 hours with our two other kids (his twin brother and 10 year old brother) being in the care of other family members. We desperately want to get our family back together as much as possible. Transporting him home and getting him to the facilities we want is proving to be very difficult. We're looking for options that are first and foremost best for his health and well being both physically and mentally. Secondarily we are concerned about the well being of all of our family.
We have insurance, but this is going to be a very long road ahead of us with lots of unpredictable expenses. Getting him home with the family and support we have in Grand Rapids could completely fall on us as the insurance is currently wanting to have him stay up here for care. We have put out a call for others to help us think of solutions and so many friends and strangers have said they would donate to the cause. I'm not too proud to ever ask for help when I need it and my family needs help. My son needs help. If you're so inclined to help take a little weight of this situation off our shoulders that would be so kind, appreciated, and generous.
