Hola, mi nombre es Carlos M. Colón y me gustaría compartir mi historia contigo.
En abril del 2013, conocí una hermosa mujer, Mari L. Pineda, colombiana, residente permanente de los Estados Unidos desde el 2005 y madre de 2 hermosas niñas. Desde el momento que la conocí, supe que Mari sería mi esposa y un 21 de diciembre de 2016, decidimos unir nuestras vidas. Nos casamos y desde entonces hemos formado una hermosa familia junto a mis 2 hijos de mi matrimonio anterior y sus 2 hijas. Ahora nuestra familia está compuesta por nuestros 4 hijos y 1 nieta.
A finales de noviembre de este año, Mari recibe la noticia desde Colombia que su tía la persona que la crió desde la edad de los 10 años y quién fué como una madre para ella, se había contagiado por Covid-19. Días más tarde, el 1 de diciembre recibe la noticia de que su querida tía-madre había fallecido. Ella estaba destruída, como muchas personas lo han estado al no poder estar con sus seres queridos debido a esta terrible pandemia. Días después, su tío contrae también Covid-19 y fallece el 8 de diciembre y para hacer la situación más terrible y difícil su padre contare Covid-19 y fallece el 15 de diciembre. Para mi esposa este fué el golpe más fuerte de todos. Mari es única hija, por lo que no pensó dos veces en tomar la decisión de viajar a Colombia y poder darle el último Adiós y Cristiana Sepultura a todos sus seres queridos. Ella estaba devastada y sabía que como única hija este era su deber. Una vez cumplido esto y con un gran dolor en su corazón, regresa a los Estados Unidos el 21 de diciembre, fecha de nuestro cuarto aniversario, el cuál esperaba le brindara un poco de alegría. a pesar de las circunstancias, deseaba que pudiéramos celebrarlo junto a nuestros hijos al igual que la Navidad.
Todo esto se vio empañado, ya que este mismo día es detenida al pasar por Inmigración.
Allí es víctima de humillaciones y le informan que supuestamente una persona que solicita asilo político no puede regresar a su país natal, pues el gobierno de los Estados Unidos ve esto como un fraude, sin importar las circunstancias o razones que te hayan llevado a regresar. Este día nuestro mundo se vino abajo. Nunca imaginamos tener que pasar por tantas situaciones terribles al mismo tiempo. No puedo ni imaginar, como está mi esposa, pero puedo hablar de cómo estamos como familia y nuestros hijos. Mari, esposa y madre excepcional, la alegría de nuestro hogar no está con nosotros. No imaginan lo difícil que ha sido para todos el tener que levantarnos un 25 de diciembre sin tenerla en casa. Las niñas y yo no quisimos abrir ningún regalo de Navidad y no lo haremos hasta que ella esté de regreso.
Mari, actualmente se encuentra encarcelada en un Centro de Detención aquí en la Florida, sin derecho a visitas, por lo que no hemos podido verla ni abrazarla para darle ese consuelo que sé tanto necesita. Ya contratamos un abogado, el cuál esperamos pueda ayudarnos a tenerla de nuevo en casa lo antes posible, pero todo este proceso es extremadamente costoso, son muchos los gastos que surgirán y por tal razón, he decidido crear una campaña en GoFundMe, por lo que con un corazón humilde y el cuál estará eternamente agradecido apelo a ustedes de su ayuda para poder lograrlo. Nuestra familia les estará sumamente agradecida si pudiésen ayudar con un donativo y luego compartiésen mi historia y campaña con su red de amigos y familiares. Sé que es posible que no te sobre el dinero; pero por eso quiero que sepas que no importa la cantidad que nos puedas aportar nos servirá de gran ayuda.

Our family is incomplete, help us bring our beloved Mari back home
Hello, my name is Carlos M. Colon and I would like to share our story with you today.
In April of 2013, I met the most gorgeous woman, Mari Luz Pineda, a colombian, a permanent US resident since 2005, and a mother of 2 beautiful daughters. Since the day I met her, I knew she would come to be my wife and on the 21st of December of 2016, we decided to become one in marriage and since then we have created a beautiful family with my own 2 kids from my previous marriage and her 2 kids. Now our family consist of our 4 kids and a grandaughter.
This past November, Mari had recieved the news that her aunt, who had practically raised her as one of her own had gotten Covid-19 and passed away on December 1st after a week of fighting. Days later, her uncle, who had also gottten contaminated by the virus, passed away on December 8 and to make her situation more difficult, her own Father got the virus and passed away on December 15th. For my wife this was the biggest grief for her to endure. Mari, being an only child, without thinking twice booked an emergency flight to Colombia to say her last goodbye’s to her passed loved ones. With a broken heart she made her way back to the United States on December 21st, which also happened to be the day of our wedding anniversary. Despite the circumstances, we were all excited to at least be together for Christmas and spend time as a family, especially with Mari’s eldest daughter returning home from college that same day.
This dream was shattered as Mari was detained by immigration for 2 days without any news of her wherabouts
There she was a victim of many degrading treatment including lack of sleep, food, and water with no information on why she was being held to begin with. Apparently when she first entered the United States a little over 20 years ago, she did so as a political refugee without knowing that by doing so would mean she was no longer allowed to return to her country. By doing so would deem her the title of a fraud under the eyes of the government, no matter the circumstance. Never in a million years would we have imagined this would happened to us. You can imagine how hard it’s been on all of us to wake up on Christmas day without having her home, Christmas just didn’t feel right to celebrate without having her there and completing our family. We have deceided as a family to not open a single present under the tree until we have her with us.
Mari is currently detained at a Transicional Center here in Florida, without any rights to visitation so no one has been able to hug her and give her that support she needs. We have found an amazing lawyer who can help us get her home as soon as possible but this process also comes with a price, a large one too. This is why we decided to share Mari’s story and create a GoFundMe to help cover the costs. We ask that out of the kindness of your hearts that you help pitch in and share her story so that we can accomplish this. Even if it’s not much, every penny counts and our family will be extremely grateful by your generosity.
