PLEASE HELP US FUND DIASPORIC INTIMACIES: QUEER FILIPINOS/AS AND CANADIAN IMAGINARIES.

WHAT IS DIASPORIC INTIMACIES

These groundbreaking events bring together artists, scholars, activists, and frontline community members as they examine the contributions of queer Filipinos/as to Canadian culture and society.

Diasporic Intimacies is comprised of a full-day conference, an opening gala, an artist dialogue/film screening, and a three-week art exhibit. Each event will feature the works of emerging professional artists, and artists collaborating with  community organizations seeking to improve the lives of Filipinos/as in the Greater Toronto Area and the diaspora .

All events are free to the general public.

For more information, please visit: www.queerfilipinosincanada.ca

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED?

1) Funds will help make Diasporic Intimacies reach as many people as possible, by making all events free to the general public.

Because we are committed to building coalitions across and between multiple sectors of Canadian society, we  aim to encourage as much participation from community members as possible, regardless of their economic status.  Although this event already has community and institutional partners, we welcome support from the general community as well, to cover some of the expenses of these events. These expenses include the cost for staffing the multiple venues (OCAD University, Open Gallery, and the 519 Community Centre), the cost for providing refreshments, and the cost of providing materials to all conference attendees.

2) Funds will support the first Queer Filipino/a Community Service Award.

This award aims to combat de-skilling in Canada by recognizing the efforts of an exemplary LGBTQ identified Filipino/a in the greater Toronto area. This award will acknowledge the much needed efforts of a member of the community, particularly as such efforts are often rarely acknowledged.
