We are raising money to help with travel expenses and show costs for our upcoming production of QUEER‽ NOW‽, a show produced for the 2019 In The Soil Festival. QUEER‽ NOW‽ will be taking place less than a month from now, on June 8th at 9pm at the Oddfellows Hall in St. Catharines, Ontario.
QUEER‽ NOW‽ is a one hour multidisciplinary theatre performance created by two trans performers with radically different artistic and professional backgrounds. Existing as a sort of sequel to the 2018 production of QUEER! NOW! (performed at Brock University, directed by Max Hunter with Heather Janser, Ari Para, and Dael M. Cooper. ), we return with new contributors to explore how our sometimes contrasting, sometimes intertwined experiences of art, activism, and queer existence influence our lives in complex and ever changing ways. The performance avoids simply stating that performance is a tool for social change, and asks why (if at all) it is.
As we are travelling as a team from Montreal via Megabus/Greyhound, our costs to get to the festival are approximately $100 per person (depending on price fluctuation and factoring in travel from Montreal to Toronto, then Toronto to St. Catharines). We also need to pay for lodging in St. Catharines, in addition to necessities (ie. food).
While the festival has been generous in allotting an artists fee and venue for our production (many, many thanks to ITS for supporting this work!), we are without external funding, and are both currently without steady income.
We are reaching out for support on this show to help us cover our expenses. Neither of us are anticipating being paid for our work on this project, but we are hoping that with the support of our communities, we might be able to deliver a stronger production without risking an extended diet of ramen and coffee in the coming months!
Contributors to the project will be sent a special treat as a thank you for their generosity, and we will recognize each donor in the show program if they are comfortable being included! We will also be giving sneak peaks of the show to donors!
Not in town for the show but want to help out? We'll be videoing the performance, and will provide each contributor with a copy!
