Quakertown Fire Department SCBA Fund Drive

The Quakertown Fire Department (QFD) in Upper Bucks County serves all of Quakertown Borough, 62% of Richland Township and a small portion – approximately 4 square miles – of East Rockhill Township, for a total of 26 square miles. The Quakertown Fire Department Service area is diverse, including an older, dense mixed-use small-town area, strip commercial development, industry, new subdivisions, farmland and forested areas in transition.

The Quakertown Fire Department is comprised of two fire stations: Quakertown Fire Company #1 and Quakertown West End Fire Company. The Fire Department provides oversight and fire management to the two stations. The Department and both Stations are fully 100% VOLUNTEER organizations. The Quakertown Fire Department is trained in all aspects of fire suppression, rescue, hazardous material operations and Emergency Medical Services. The Department is a member of the Bucks County Hazardous Materials Task Force and Fire Task Force organizations. There is a mutual aid policy that allows us to assist and to receive aid throughout Bucks County, Upper Montgomery County, and the Lehigh Valley area, for emergencies and large-scale fire suppression and other emergencies as needed. The QFD is also your first line of defense for: Homeland Security, Bio-terrorist Emergencies, Special Rescue Emergencies, Disaster Management, Fire Police Services and other Public Services as needed.

Last year the QFD responded to a total of 609 emergencies.  A total of 9,924 volunteers responded to these emergencies, averaging 20.8 volunteers per call.  These emergencies resulted in 6,941 hours 14 minutes of man-hours.  An additional 1,089 hours 28 minutes of man-hours were spent on other public services.  Our members participated in 75 training drills totally another 482 hours of volunteer service.

The Quakertown Fire Department needs your help. Help us Help You. The QFD is requesting your support to purchase new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to replace our existing units. With the National Fire Protection Agency and OSHA Standards changing and manufacturers offering more safety back-up features to protect our firefighters we truly believe this is a mission we need to complete. Due to our call volume, age of the units (15 years) and the current condition of our existing SCBA, we need to replace this equipment as soon as possible. This will not only help to protect our volunteers but will also assist us in helping you in a more efficient and safety-oriented manner if the need arises. The total number of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus we need to replace is 52 units for a total cost of $304,634.00.

Through a Grant Funding Opportunity and a cooperative working relationship with the municipalities we serve, we have been able to support about 58% of the dollars needed to make this purchase. We need to raise an additional $130,000 to be able to purchase this much needed safety equipment. This equates to an additional $2,500 per unit that we need to raise.

We need your support. We are looking for Business Leaders and Community Partners to help us raise the additional $130,000 needed to purchase this equipment. The QFD is working hard to make this financial commitment come true. You will also see our Volunteers out in the Community raising funds through other Fund Raisers to help support this initiative.
