126 miles for ward 126

Tax deductible

In December last year, both of my parents were rushed into hospital after being taken seriously ill with COVID-19, I spent every hour of every day trying desperately to get through to the ward to see how they were both doing, every day would see a different answer “Your mum has picked up slightly but your dad is now struggling” then the next day “your dad has picked up slightly but your mum is now struggling” it was devastating. On Christmas Day I got the call that there was nothing more they could do for my dad, and that now all they could do was to make him comfortable. As my dad was now classed as “palliative care” I was now allowed to visit him. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was to witness when I got to the ward, I sat for hours painstakingly watching my dad battle for every breath, it was torture, he fought and he fought until inevitably he couldn’t fight anymore, and on Boxing Day he lost his battle.

As if this wasn’t heartbreaking enough my mum still remained extremely poorly on the same ward as my dad with the same virus, I begged the Dr’s not to tell my Mum as I was convinced this would make her give up her fight, I simply couldn’t lose them both. But of course she had to be told. She had to know. And against all the odds she battled her way every day to make it home. She amazed me.

Which now brings me to the aim of this page, I will never forget what I witnessed on that ward, the staff were all incredible . They looked after both of my parents amazingly well. They cared, they watched, they listened. Not only this they stood by my side as I screamed for the loss of my dad, comforting me when the cruelty of this virus keeps you away from the ones you need to comfort you.  I want to raise as much money as I can for the ward that looked after my parents. During the month of February I am going to run 126 miles for ward 126. I have to have some meaning to all of this, I have to have something good come from this, and right now I need a focus in my life. Please please help me bring some light in an incredibly dark time. And some peace to my broken heart.

“For my Dad”
