Helping Papo and Ana Start Over

When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, many families in the US were cut off from communications with their relatives in Puerto Rico. Without cell phone towers and power, loved ones have anxiously waited.
One of our own friends and her family have finally heard from their parents and some of their relatives in PR. Wanda Morales, her children, and her brother and sister had waited to hear from their father Papo and his wife Ana for over a week. Ana had surgery two days before the storm hit. Papo, being a veteran who retired from the U S Army after 23 years of service, was as prepared as could be for a storm like this. But they need to leave Puerto Rico as soon as possible. They cannot stay on the island right now.
Wanda and her family have bought tickets to fly them out as soon as they can. But they will be leaving with only what they can bring on the plane.
Many people have asked Wanda and her family what they can do to help in this trying time. The family is very concerned not just about Papo and Ana but also about other relatives on the island. When I talked to Wanda, her first response was concern about the many, many folks in Puerto Rico, including her extended family, who have such need and yet don't have the resources to leave the island.
I'd like to help get Papo and Ana settled into a home here and cover the basics for them. Knowing them, as soon as they have a roof over their heads and time to think through it, they will most likely reach out to directly help others left behind. Papo is one of those indomitable people who will probably go back to help rebuild when he can.
Please help cover the expenses of airfare, housing, replacing clothing and personal items, and starting over away from the devastation in Puerto Rico.
Just so you know... My name is Liz Welch. I have been friends with Wanda for many years and have a personal relationship with Papo and Ana. I am starting this GoFundMe after talking with Wanda about how overwhelmed the family is by being cut off from parents, aunts, uncles and cousins who are in Puerto Rico. Her father has only been able to call once and many family members haven't been connected with yet. Papo and Ana have both indicated that they need to leave as soon as possible. All funds will be given to Papo and Ana directly to start over. Some funds may be shared with other family in Puerto Rico or utilized for rebuilding in Puerto Rico based on Papo's personal experience there of where need is greatest.
