How far can $20 go?
Your $20 can feed a family of 6 for a whole month in Burundi.
In July a team of 14 including myself will be heading over from Launceston Tasmania to deliver a gift of food to those most in need.
The $20 packages will include items such as rice, beans, salt and soap. Last year these packages fed over 800 families for a month BUT there were many many more turned away. This year we aim to provide over 1000 families with food for a month in an effort to ease their immediate needs while we continue to build into their community for long term sustainability.
This is one of the best ways we can instantly ease the burden on families in poverty. But our ultimate goal is to raise a generation of empowered Burundians, by developing their community infrastructure and skills.
The effects of civil war, AIDS and poverty have left many female headed households with no means to generate an income in Burundi. Villages of Life is working in a rural community to increase community capacity to provide for the needs of widows and orphans.
The multi-part project involves:
Housing – a sturdy foundation with durable building materials will withstand the intensity of fierce and frequent storms in place of traditional mud huts.
Education and Empowerment – children will attend the newly constructed neighborhood school whilst young adults can partake in TAFE woodwork, metalwork and sewing classes.
Fish Farm and Agriculture - a diversity of food sources keep the community fed through self-sufficient production.
From project design through to implementation and construction, the next generation of leaders are rising up to take Burundi into a brighter future.

The money from this campaign will be withdrawn from Gofundme this month by Ted Bosveld's Villages of Life account. On the 11th of July we will close the campaign and Ted will be ordering the buy rice, beans, salt and soap from locals in Burundi to put these packages together when we arrive on the 19th of July. The distribution will be done by myself and the rest of the group on the week of the 22nd of July, to see pictures and updates please check out our Facebook page.
