Help Save Little Alfie

Little Alfie has a Gallbladder Mucoceole and needs emergency life-saving surgery to save his life.

About a week ago, gentle soul, Alfie, was taken to his vet after vomitting. Since then, he has gone back and forth and has slowly deteriorated. Finally, the vet scanned his gallbladder and diagnosed a mucocele.

Despite suffering from mild CECS, Alfie's deterioration from seemingly good health was sudden and traumatic. The slow speed of his vet - who simply sent him home and planned medical management, even though this does not work on formed mucoceles, has not helped Alfie's condition. However, after pressure from his parents, he was moved to Davies in Exeter who agreed that medical management would not work and that he needed urgent surgical intervention.

Unfortunately, the surgery has a high perioperative death rate over the first two weeks in dogs, and therefore a highly specialised team is required, so that any post-operative complications can be addressed skilfully. Davies have therefore referred Alfie to Cave referrals in Taunton.

In a race against time, Alfie has been moved there this morning. However, the cost of his life saving surgery is estimated at £6,000 to £7,000 and his family cannot afford it, having already spent a lot of money on tests and scans. And Alfie's age has made it difficult to get enough insurance cover.

Border Terrier Welfare has kindly stepped in and offered to support Alfie if a fundraiser is set up to try to raise as much as possible for his treatment.
