Study Abroad in Greece

Hello everyone! I have recently been accepted into a great study abroad program for American pre-medical students that allows students to shadow physicians in various specialties for 20+ hrs/week in a different country. I will be traveling to Athens, Greece and shadowing at the Agia Sofia Pardon Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in Greece. A few of the unique departments in the hospital include the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, the Hematology/Oncology Department, the Pediatric Cardiology Deparment, the Neuroimmune Dieases Unit, etc. These various departments make this hospital a great place to observe the various specialties in medicine.

As many of you know, I plan on attending medical school after I receive my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Clemson University. Applying to medical school is a competitive process and opportunities like this will help me stand out as a competitive applicant. This program also allows me to pursue my desire to experience a different culture, which many pre-med students are unable to pursue due to their rigorous course schedules. This program will allow me to see firsthand what the profession of a physician looks like so that I deepen my passion for healthcare and develop a better understanding of medicine. 

The cost of the program is $5,120, which includes dormitory-style housing, daily breakfast and three group meals every week, daily transportation to and from the hospital, travel health insurance, a local non-smartphone, and 24hr support by Site Managers, etc.  This however leaves me with the cost of the flight. Nevertheless, for me this program is a huge investment in my future and I believe that with the support of my family and friends, I can make this happen!
