<div>Matyas ist 35 Jahre alt und war ein fröhlicher, aktiver Mensch voller Zukunftspläne. Heute ist sein Leben durch eine schwere kraniozervikale Instabilität (CCI), verursacht durch das Ehlers-Danlos-Syndrom, völlig aus den Fugen geraten.

<div>Aufgrund geschwächter Bänder in seiner oberen Halswirbelsäule/Kopfgelenke ist sein Kopf nicht mehr ausreichend stabilisiert. Dies führt zu einem permanenten Druck auf Gehirn, Rückenmark und Blutgefäße und verursacht verheerende Symptome: extreme Erschöpfung, starke Schmerzen, neurologische Probleme, Atemnot, Herzrhythmusstörungen und kognitive Beeinträchtigungen. Er leidet jeden Tag ohne Linderung.

<div>Nachdem alle Behandlungsmöglichkeiten in Deutschland ausgeschöpft waren, schöpfte Matyas Hoffnung aus einer spezialisierten Klinik in den USA, die das PICL-Verfahren anbietet , ein dort bereits etabliertes Behandlungsverfahren, bei der seine eigenen Stammzellen eingesetzt werden, um seine beschädigten Kopfgelenksbänder zu reparieren und möglicherweise eine risikoreiche Versteifungsoperation zu vermeiden.

<div>Nach seiner ersten Behandlung verspürte er bereits eine deutliche Linderung, was ihm Hoffnung gibt.

<div>Die Behandlung wird jedoch nicht von der Krankenkasse übernommen. Jede Sitzung kostet 14.500 US-Dollar, und aufgrund der Schwere seiner Erkrankung benötigt er vier Behandlungen, die sich auf insgesamt rund 60.000 Euro belaufen.

<div>Matyas is 35 years old and was once a cheerful, active person full of plans for the future. Today, his life has been turned upside down by severe craniocervical instability (CCI), caused by Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

<div>Due to weakened ligaments in his upper cervical spine, his head is no longer properly stabilized. This leads to constant pressure on his brain, spinal cord, and blood vessels, causing devastating symptoms: extreme exhaustion, severe pain, neurological problems, breathing difficulties, heart rhythm disturbances, and cognitive impairment. He suffers every single day without relief.

<div>After exhausting all treatment options in Germany, Matyas found hope in a specialized clinic in the USA offering the PICL procedure, a treatment using his own stem cells to repair damaged ligaments at his craniocervical junction and potentially avoid a highly risky fusion surgery.

<div>After his first treatment, he already experienced noticeable relief, giving real hope that this therapy can help him.

<div>However, the treatment is not covered by insurance. Each procedure costs $14,500, and due to the severity of his condition, he needs four treatments, totaling around €60,000.

<div>Eine Kopfgelenksinstabilität (CCI) ist eine Instabilität der Verbindung zwischen Schädel und den ersten Halswirbeln. Dort, in unmittelbarer Nähe des Gehirns, des Rückenmarks und lebenswichtiger Blutgefäße, die das Gehirn mit Sauerstoff und Nährstoffen versorgen, herrscht aus verschiedenen Gründen zu viel Bewegungsspielraum. Bei Matyas ist es eine Verletzung der Alaria und Transversum Haltebänder. Es ist, als ob der Kopf nicht richtig mit dem Körper verbunden ist – und jede Bewegung drückt wie ein Schraubstock auf das empfindliche Nervensystem. Die Symptome, die durch diese permanente Kompressionen entstehen, sind ebenso überwältigend wie furchteinflößend. Herzrhythmusstörungen, Atemnot, Durchblutungsstörungen, Belastungsintoleranz, Tinnitus, massive körperliche Schwäche, Sehstörungen, Sehfeldausfälle, Krampfanfälle, Taubheitsgefühle in Armen und Beinen, ausgeprägte kognitive Störungen, Gehirndruckstörungen, Wortfindungsstörungen, starke Nervenschmerzen, Muskelschmerzen, unkontrolliertes Muskelzittern und Bewegungskoordinationsstörungen, Druckschmerz am Schädelansatz, um nur einige zu nennen. Beschwerdefreie Momente gibt es nicht mehr und somit keine Teilnahme an einem normalen, sozialen Leben.

<div>Cervical cervical instability (CCI) is an instability of the connection between the skull and the first cervical vertebrae / spine. There, in the immediate vicinity of the brain, spinal cord and vital blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygen and nutrients, there is too much room for movement for various reasons. In Matyas' case, it is an injury to the alar and transverse ligaments. It is as if the head is not properly connected to the body - and every movement presses on the sensitive nervous system like a vice. The symptoms caused by this permanent compression are as overwhelming as they are terrifying. Cardiac arrhythmia, shortness of breath, circulatory disorders, stress intolerance, tinnitus, massive physical weakness, visual disturbances, non epileptic-seizures, numbness in arms and legs, word-finding disorders, nerve pain, muscle pain and movement coordination disorders, pressurepain at the base of the skull to name but a few. There are no moments without symptoms and participation in normal life is no longer possible.
