Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Donation protected

I missed a medal in London 2012 by 1/10th of a second. I came back and won a silver medal in Rio 2016. And decided I wanted to go one better in Tokyo 2020.

**Some quick basic info on training costs:

• EACH WEEK it costs me over £100 just for velodrome sessions and travel costs to get there
• EACH WEEK it costs me £50 for physio and gym time
• EACH WEEK it costs me £25 for nutritional supplements (bars, gels, powders) needed for training.

** These are JUST costs associated with training before I have spent a penny on anything I need just for regular living!!

I missed out on funding for 2019... by 10.8 seconds in the World Championships Time Trial.  One bad year, one bad race - and I'm left with nothing. But I'd like to keep racing and qualify for Tokyo 2020 (well within my capabilities.) But now I need YOUR help.

I've dedicated the last 10 years of my life to Paralympic sport, both on and off the bike as a both rider and a representative to the UCI and Paralympics Ireland for ALL riders. I haven't taken any time off for myself in that time. Such is the way sport funding works in Ireland - you are never allowed to have a bad year and you are always in search of a result to stay on the funding ladder. And I have done it happily.

I don't think my time is up yet. I'm not 'over' it yet and my best days are still not all behind me. A few tweaks and I can be right back up on the podium in 2019! (Not to mention, the World Championships for the next 2 years are DEFINITELY my kind of course!)

I'm trying to raise enough money to make sure I have enough money to carry on for another year, and focus on qualification for Tokyo. Even if I secure funding from Ireland for 2019, I'll need to raise additional funds to help with training and equipment in this crucial qualification year.

For the past few months I've been training on the track in Manchester – trying to regain my Pursuit form. And it's looking good. I hope to be elected for the 2019 Track World Championships and show the world I'm still capable of being a top rider.

On the road, with 2 World Cups in May - I'll be up against the best in the world again - and it'll be an honest test. At least one of those Words Cups suits me, so no excuses!

I haven't asked for much from anyone over the years and I have always tried to do my part to help EVERYONE in this great sport of Paracycling. So here's hoping that a bit of karma comes my way... and people out there will see some value in me still.

If can can spare even £5... it will help. (And for my part, I will be selling off as much equipment as I can do without to help pay the bills. It's all a big commitment but if I'm willing to put it all on the line, I'm hoping you all will be willing to back me as well!)

Thanks for reading this far - and I would greatly appreciate your help if you can give it.

Thank you,
Colin Lynch
