Classroom Makeover

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for checking out this page. Please read a little bit about me, my upcoming teaching position, and ways that you can help my students have the classroom they deserve. Whether you can donate a couple of dollars or a couple hundred dollars, I appreciate any help. Please also share this page with your family and friends as well and prayers are always appreciated.

About Me:
I just graduated from Central State University- an HBCU in Wilberforce, OH. I spent my time student teaching with Kindergarteners in a rural school close by my college. I graduated in May 2018 and am a first-generation college graduate. I recently moved to Columbus, Ohio with my girlfriend since I was always interested in working in an inner-city school. Growing up, I had a couple of teachers that stuck out to me and helped motivate and mentor me into the person I am today. I give them a lot of credit for helping me get this far in life and for helping me find my passion for teaching. I am very excited to start teaching and have my own classroom. My long-term goal is to be a principal of a school and eventually work my way up to superintendent since I want to be able to reach as many students as possible and help make positive change in my district.

My School:
I have officially accepted a position teaching 2nd grade at a charter school in Columbus, Ohio. The school I will be at works primarily with high-risk students, many of which have Limited English Proficiency. The majority of the students are refugees so there is an amazing diversity of cultures, religions, and ethnicities represented in the classroom. This presents its own set of challenges and adventures and I am beyond excited to begin my teaching career here as a 2nd grade teacher. I spoke with the principal and unfortunately there is not much in the classroom currently and not much provided by the school. That means it’s on me to make the classroom as good as possible for these students. And they deserve the best.

Classroom Goals:
The classroom currently is empty. Beyond empty. It has desks and chairs and not much else at the moment. This is not the type of environment that will help to foster learning in students. I have big goals for my classroom and for my students and that’s where I need your help. In order to get everything necessary to help these students thrive in the coming year, I need your financial support. Whether you can donate a couple of dollars or a couple hundred dollars, every bit helps these students to reach their full potential. Besides the regular wall decorations/posters, etc. that will brighten up the room and provide learning opportunities for the students, there are a couple of big expenses that I would like to purchase for these kids:

Classroom Expenses:
·      Reading corner – still needs bookshelves, bean bag chairs, pillows/rug to sit on, and most importantly: BOOKS. The only books that are provided by the school are those that go with the curriculum but I would like to have a corner full of books so they can be the gateway for broader learning and experiences for my students. When you're trying to have a good selection of books for kids to practice reading, the price adds up quick.

·      Kidney table- this is incredibly important for group work. Unfortunately the classroom does not have one of these but they are helpful for when I need to work with a small group of students. They also aren’t cheap and aren’t easy to find used ones for sale. The cheaper ones still cost over $200.

·      Classroom supplies- tubs, pencils, markers, art supplies, etc. These materials add up quick, especially when my classroom size will be about 25 students/year.

·      Wall decorations/learning posters, etc.

The school year starts mid-August so I need to start collecting items for the classroom pretty quickly. If you can, please donate. Please also share this page with your family and friends. I appreciate your prayers and support as I start this new and exciting chapter in my life.
