Welcome to the Queensland Assange Campaign. We thank you for joining us
in our efforts to raise awareness about the plight of WikiLeaks founder,
and former Editor-in-chief, Julian Assange.
Our goal is to ensure Julian’s freedom.
Julian is currently detained in Belmarsh maximum security prison where
he is fighting extradition to the United States. The US has charged
Julian with 17 counts under the Espionage Act, and one count under the
US Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, essentially for carrying out regular
journalistic activity. Julian faces 175 years (the rest of his life) in
prison for exposing war crimes and serious human and enviromental rights
violations.
This is effectively a death sentence and cruel and unusual punishment.
The precedent set by this political prosecution is extremely dangerous
because of the extraterritorial overreach (an Australian citizen who was
not in US jurisdiction), and the disproportionate sentence involved. Not
only will Julian pay the ultimate personal price for exposing the truth,
the persecution has an inevitable chilling effect on the exposure of
government malfeasance globally. We cannot and must not allow this to
occur.

A highly-effective global disinformation campaign has been waged against
Mr Assange, making it difficult for people in public life to demonstrate
any support for a man who should be praised for his courage.
YOU CAN HELP TO CHANGE THIS!
The Bring Julian Assange Home Queensland Network is staging an event to
inform Queenslanders about the truth of his case to build support to
force the Australiangovernment to intervene and to ensure Mr Assange is
returned home safely to Australia.
QUEENSLANDER JULIAN ASSANGE: GET THE FACTS
This event will be held on November 27th, at Parliament House, Brisbane.
Guest speaker will be Greg Barns, an Australian barrister, author,
political commentator and spokesperson for the Australian Lawyers
Alliance. He is an adviser to the Australian Assange campaign and has
worked with WikiLeaks and Julian Assange for seven years.
Other guest speakers will be advised in due course.
There will be a QandA style panel after Mr Barns address.
This is a matter of life and death.
YOU CAN HELP BY MAKING A DONATION TO STAGE THIS EVENT.
The more funds we have to promote this event and make it a success, the
more likely it is we can get Julian home.
