If you’ve ever met Julie then chances are you love her. She’s a “one of a kind” kind of girl. Early this morning Julianne was in a car accident while taking her kids to school. She was hit while backing out of her driveway. She was air lifted to Upstate Medical in Syracuse NY. Julie suffered significant head trauma and has undergone surgery. She is currently in a medically induced coma while she heals.
Julie is a single working mom of two and is going to need all the financial help she can get as she recovers. I’m hoping to raise enough to get her through until she is back on her feet. Please say a prayer for our strong girl!

I just spoke with Julie’s mom and want to update on her condition. Julie had a rough day yesterday. She went into emergency surgery upon arrival to the hospital. Julie had a brain bleed, during the procedure they removed a portion of her skull. Part of her skull was shattered during the impact and she suffers shattered bones in her face as well. She is being kept in a state of sedation right now. They wake her periodically to check her, when asked to wiggle her toes...she moves her legs. Our stubborn girl is showing signs of improvement. Her mother says she can have visitors, 2 at a time for very short periods. Please if you visit her be prepared in advance for her appearance. Only positive vibes for our girl. I will keep everyone updated as her condition changes. I also changed the amount we are raising...this is going to be a very long road. She will be unable to work for quite some time and still has a home to maintain financially as well as two kiddos to provide for. Any help is so appreciated!!!!

Update I received from Julie’s sister in law Alice.
Thanks so much for setting up this go fund for Julie ! She is amazing and doing remarkable today. She has her breathing tube taken out today and they have her sitting up in bed and she has had sips of water on her own with the help of the speech therapist . She responds to questions when asked and knows everyone . Incredible strides . Keep those prayers coming . She is a miracle . Long road to recovery but huge amazing improvements from yesterday! She doesn’t remember the accident yet.

I just received a call from Julie’s sister in law Alice. She is asking that everyone continue to pray and add extras. Julie is having a rough morning. She slept most of yesterday (which is to be expected) Today she is very agitated. It’s a bad day for her today. Send love and positive thoughts her way, she’s needing them more than ever. I will update again as soon as I have news.

I received another call. Part of Julie’s irritation earlier centered around the neck brace she has to wear. They were able to get her to MRI and it came back clear!! She was able to have the brace removed and is now sleeping comfortably. She is dealing with a lot of emotions today. They have also removed the bandages on her head, and the incisions are healing nicely. She was even able to get up to go to the bathroom. Julie is such a trooper, it’s one day at a time..but this being day 3 she’s also a rock star!

Until now I have been updating on Julie’s progress via information I have received from her family. This morning I went to visit her as she is finally allowed visitors other than immediate family. Today I got to see with my own eyes the condition Julie is in. I was anticipating how she would look but wasn’t completely prepared for what I saw. My heart broke when I walked into her room. Her face is swollen on her right side, as well as her eye. (She is having a tough time opening it) the other eye is blackened and has redness on the inside. She’s wearing a helmet to reduce/prevent swelling...and boy does she hate her helmet. What impressed me was her quick wit has not disappeared, still the same funny girl she has always been, only in a different way. I know that this is standard after a traumatic brain injury of course but I was hoping to see her the way she’s always been. She cracked jokes, which was both a comfort and relief to me. My girl has a long long way to go. I have every bit of faith that she will continue to improve as time goes on. There are small things that mark improvement, like being able to eat puréed food, drink coffee or soda and possibly have one of the small IVs removed. I heard the doctor tell her that she will move to the PCU soon. I listened to her explain to Julie that she will be having surgery again in a few months. Overall in the grand scheme of things, she is doing exceptionally well considering this is day 5. Continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I know it’s going to be slow going but she’s a fighter, this girl.

Over the past few days Julie continues to improve. Yesterday she was moved from ICU to the PCU. She is able to eat pretty much anything she’d like (although she’s not in love with the hospital food) We just went to go see her again this morning and it was awesome to see how much better she is doing today vs when I last saw her. They are helping her to get out of bed and walk. While we were there she took a short walk to the bathroom to brush her teeth and she did beautifully! They are encouraging her to do things that require her to use her left arm as she is struggling still to move it much. Her overall demeanor was much better, she’s still and always will be the funniest girl I know. Every day she gets a bit stronger and although it’s baby steps...it’s steps in the right direction. I’ll post more tomorrow when I hear from her family.

It has been a few days since I have had a chance to update you all on Julie’s progress. She was moved from PCU to the rehabilitation floor on Saturday. She has a nurse sitting in the room 24/7 as she is still a fall risk. She is scheduled for surgery this coming Thursday, they will be replacing her skull flap. And although that sounds terrible, she is excited for this because it’s one step closer to being able to leave. (Which is all she talks about haha) She’s in good spirits considering her situation and today was our best visit with her yet. She’s struggling a bit with short term memory (which is typical with a right side brain injury) She is working with speech and occupational therapists. She’s eating better and overall seems more herself. We are all hoping to see improvements beyond the ones she’s made so far. This girl is the epitome of strength, and she’s not done fighting yet. Say a prayer for a successful surgery and a quick recovery from it! After she jumps that hurdle she will continue working in rehab. Still looks like a pretty long road but one I know she will get to the end of.
