Help A Teacher Stay A Teacher

Donation protected
My name is Chantell and I am a 7th grade science teacher who works in a Title 1 urban school district located in a high-poverty community.  Like many other teachers across the globe, I was heartbroken when I found out that we would be closed for the remainder of the school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I cried because I truly miss my students, they are everything to me! It is difficult not knowing if all of my students' basic needs are being met while also trying to cope with my own anxiety about what the future holds for my employment.

"As in the past, when a school entity decides to implement furloughs for one of the reasons listed above, temporary professional employees are the first educators to face furlough."
Changes to the Furlough Process for Professional Employees
As a teacher with a temporary position, I am terrified that I could be one of the first to be furloughed. This is my third year of teaching, which means I should be eligible for tenure but I need my transcripts to keep my job. Colleges place holds on academic transcripts, grade reports, and even diplomas when students have failed to meet financial obligations to the school. When students need one or more of these items, they are forced to pay up or make do without them, or file for bankruptcy.

1. I am asking for help to pay my current balance in full which is $2782.51 which will allow me to clear my account and send my transcripts to HR to start the tenure process. Although I was given other payment options, I can not wait 5-6 weeks or 9 months to secure my job as a middle school teacher.

2. I am also asking for help with my car payment which I am behind on as I have lost my other part-time jobs due to this pandemic as an assistant basketball coach and math tutor. I also work as a Personal Care Worker but I will not be able to get any hours until our county's stay-at-home order has been lifted.

3. I am asking for $900  to buy a tablet to further my education so I can support myself in the future. During my time at home, I decided I wanted to learn coding and create another source of income for myself. I have been using my work laptop but I need my own so I have full access to resources (our IT department blocks downloads, videos, etc.)

4. For my self-care, I have started the process for online therapy and I am staying consistent with my medications for depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I am asking for a weighted blanket to help me sleep better Weighted blanket  and a gift card to Instacart for $100 to help with groceries for the next two weeks until school is out.

Being a teacher is everything to me, thank you for your support!
