Paul White Wheelchair Fund

First, I want to thank everyone on behalf of Paul, Suzanne and our entire family for all the support you have provided.  As many of you know on October 31, 2017 my brother Paul sustained a very serious spinal cord injury that damaged his C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. He immediately underwent surgery to remove the herniated disk that was pressing against his spine. Although the surgery successfully removed the disk, the injury has left him paralyzed from the chest down. The long-term prognosis is uncertain at this time and Paul's days are now filled with constant activity as he meets with his therapists and the staff at the Rehabilitation Center who are working diligently to help Paul with his recovery. Paul has made progress and has recently begun handcycling to build up his upper body strength. Although his rehab is grueling he continues to have an amazing attitude and is an inspiration to our family.  He truly epitomizes the “Fighting Irish” spirit!

In the same week that Paul had his injury, his wife Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer. This sad turn of events was an enormous blow to the family but Suzanne and the boys have faced all this with incredible strength and resiliency.  Suzanne has completed her chemotherapy and radiation treatments and her latest MRI shows her cancer free!  She continues to undergo additional treatment, but she is heading in the right direction and recently started back to work on a part time basis in her chosen profession as a midwife.

Paul’s recovery involves many expenses for the family and to help continue to support them my son Chris and I have decided to travel to Amsterdam to run the Amsterdam half Marathon on October 21st .  We are setting up an additional GoFund me as part of the race efforts to help raise funds for Paul to buy a new wheelchair which should help provide him some additional level of independence.  This will be a separate effort from the main GoFund me page and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the cost of the wheelchair.

If you have any questions please leave your email address in the comments and we will respond ASAP.  The tremendous outpouring of support for Paul, Suzanne, Etienne, Julian and Ryan through the GoFund me page as well as all the letters and emails have meant so much to our family.  Thank you all for your love and continued support!
