Hunter Family Adoption Fund

Donation protected
The magic, beauty and sacredness of raising children remains the same no matter where they came from.

We are the Hunters on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada and we've been on an adoption journey since Fall 2012. We have a biological son who is three and a half and he is so excited to be a big brother. And a wonderful big brother he shall be! Our hearts are filled with joy as we have rencently learned we’ve been matched with a baby who is due to be born in the next few weeks.

We were not initially planning on adopting a newborn. Currently we are registered with the Ministry of Children and Families to adopt one of BC's waiting1-2 year olds.

However, recently we got a call from a friend of a friend who knows someone whose family member is pregnant. For a variety of very personal reasons, this Birth Mom feels that what is best for her baby is to place it with an adoptive forever family.  And she has chosen us!

Adoptions are complex, and for everyone's safety we cannot share too much of the story, but there is a powerful connection between our family and Birth Mom. We truly feel that the universe has made this match for a reason. Something amazing is unfolding.

Along with this wonderful surprise has come $16,000 in unexpected adoption fees (update: we just found out that the fees are higher than we had anticipated due to extra lawyer fees). These pay for social worker visits, legal fees, ongoing support for birth mom, post-placement visits and more.  Adopting through MCFD is free, so we haven't been saving for this. While we do have some savings, we’d like to use these for other things we may need (special consultations for the baby, unpaid time off, travel to meet Birth Mom and baby etc.).

We don't have time for a baby shower, and we already have loads of baby things from our first child, so we are asking friends and family, and anyone else who is inspired to do so, to contribute to our adoption fund.  We would be ever so grateful.

Our adoption journey has been full of love, learning, bends and switchbacks in the road. If you want to learn more please check out our blog
We truly thank you for your support!

PS. There's always a chance that adoptions don't go through. Things happen. If this happens to us, we still have to pay the adoption fees, and we'll also be grieving. We will contact donors to determine if they wish for their donations to be returned.
