PPE for Guatemala

I lived and worked in Panajachel, Guatemala for 10 years. My oldest son, Joaquin was born there and unfortunately got very sick and spent time in ICU at the public hospital so i know first hand the condition and resources or lack of resources available for Guatemalans with a severely underfunded health system.

When I spoke to my good friend Doctor Eric who works at the Health Care centre
in my partners home town, my second
home, Panajachel, i was devastated to       hear how they are forced to put their lives at risk whilst trying to educate and and attend to people during the Covid 19 crises.  On October 18th, a 38 year old nurse from the health centre passed away as a result of Covid-19, contracted at work. 

Currently in Guatemala 9 out of 10 people who are intubated in ICU as a result of Covid do not survive. 
The centre relies on the Department of Health to provide enough PPE for staff but it is not enough and doesn’t always 
arrive on time. 

All funds raised will go towards ensuring all staff at the centre have sufficient PPE to attend to patients to protect themselves and the greater community of Pana and surrounds including purchasing: Respiradores Full Face + $300-350 plus filters for these fitted face masks( these can last for a little over a month) $45 Masks KN95 o N95 AUD$12-15 Surgical masks AUD$1 Disposable gloves PPE overalls AUD $40 Surgical gowns Caretas Protectoras

People who know me know I am passionate about social justice and equity and that my heart aches knowing that my partner and kids homeland will continue to suffer with no real guidance from Government (the president publicly declared, Save himself, he who can!
