In 2008 I was a builder and a developer with a number of projects under construction. All were being built for speculation. These projects were the result of years of planning and after a lifetime as a successful builder and developer.. I grew up in an orphanage and earned a scholarship to college. After graduating I started a business as a framing contractor. I framed houses for 15 years before building as a general contractor. I started developing subdivisions a few years later to have building lots available. Everything I had was tied up in real estate...
As these projects were under construction, events in New York and Washington DC were taking place that would have devastating effects on them... Major financial institutions with government compliance were putting our economy at risk in a greedy pursuit of gain by wildly trading in financial instruments that had no intrinsic value and were undermining a stalwart of our economy, the housing industry... By late summer of that year 2008, the economy was collapsing, it was the most severe financial crisis since the Great Depression...
Seemingly overnight the value of all real estate, including my properties, collapsed. Whatever equity that existed was gone... Having been through a number of housing recessions in my life, I believed that there would be a recovery in 18 - 24 months, as there had always been. I consumed all of my resources, including all savings and my retirement account, in an attempt to keep my business and employees livelihoods afloat. It was all in vain. There was no recovery... I lost all my ventures and ended up in bankruptcy That was in 2011...
Since then I have been able to keep my mortgage current but my design business has faltered and I am now behind on my mortgage and my home is in foreclosure. I am 67 and in the past few years my health has been failing. I've had half of my pancreas removed, my gall bladder removed, three abdominal surgeries, and a major melanoma removed. I underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery three years ago and last month had another heart attack. I also have diabetes. I have no family. If I lose my home I will be on the streets. I need some assistance to save my home. I would appreciate any help... I believe I will recover from this but right now I need a bridge to that recovery...
