Hi Everyone!
Please take a second to read below and help a dear friend and fellow psychology intern of mine out. My friend Sam's mother is currently in intensive home-care in Puerto Rico and Sam has experienced a very difficult year. Please read below about my friend Sam!
Sam and I work together as interns in the counseling center and I have come to know such a resilient and amazing person in the process. He shared with me after Hurricane Maria how he used flashlights in session and stories about the devastation he would see around him. However, through all of this he finished his training, school work, and matched for internship at UMass! Last June he was about to begin a very exciting time! He was moving from Puerto Rico to Massachusetts to begin his PreDoctoral Internship with his newly wedded husband and dog!
Only a short time after his wedding last summer Sam's dear sister passed away very suddenly. He then quickly had to get his things together to make his move here without even having much time to grieve with his family. He was dealing with grief and still came into work, made new friends, and was very dedicated to his clinical work here all while grieving his sister and missing his family in Puerto Rico. It was too expensive around the holidays for Sam to visit his family, however, he continued to smile at work and remain positive about how he was going to complete internship at the counseling center through all of this!
However, he then received the devastating news around the holidays that his mother was going to be in the intensive home care due to illness. Sam recently had to fly to Puerto Rico to be with his mother due to her deteriorating health. Sam never asks for anything and if you can tell by reading this, he is a hard worker and does everything on his own. With his permission I am posting this to see if anyone can give anything to help them raise enough for him to be able to fly round trip to see his mother during this time so they are able to pay their bills and along with taking care of his mothers medical expenses.
