<div>Our father and husband, Juan Antonio García Aragón, worked for 31 years at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. He is a beloved father to Lina Sofía, Paula Marina, and Juan Francisco, and the husband of Hilda Marina Villaveces López.

<div>Since December 25th, he has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Centro Médico Toluca. We are in a truly desperate situation because his health took a turn for the worse after being admitted. Our hospital bill has already reached $500,000 MXN (over $25,000 USD). We are appealing to your generosity for any financial help you can provide in this time of dire need. <div>Vengo con noticias muy tristes. Mi papá, Juan Antonio, cómo algunos sabrán, lleva viviendo un año con fallo renal por su condición de diabetes y necesita hemodiálisis todas las semanas. Como parte de su hemodiálisis necesita de un acceso periférico a su circulación, un catéter que tiene en el pecho. Este acceso artificial comporta un riesgo, pues es una abertura al cuerpo. Y lamentablemente se ha complicado el asunto. El catéter se infectó, lo que causó sepsis, infección en sangre y desencadenó en una endocarditis causada por una bacteria no identificada muy agresiva, es el peor escenario de infección que existe.

<div>Poco después de Navidad mi papá se notaba con poca energía y problemas para caminar por lo que se le internó en el Centro Médico Toluca esperando una rápida y pronta recuperación. No imaginamos los descubrimientos clínicos que surgieron de esa internación. El Centro Médico Toluca si bien es un ambiente cómodo y una atención rápida y especializada, es un centro de medicina privado que es muy caro.

<div>Nosotros contábamos con una aseguradora, la cual confiábamos iba a cubrir los gastos de la internación, pero después de días nos negaron la solicitud. Los días han seguido pasando sin pronóstico de salida y la cuenta del hospital sigue subiendo, hasta el medio millón de pesos.

<div>La situación de mi papá está estable, ahora será transferido al ISSEMYM. Tiene que seguir luchando contra la bacteria y me voy a México lo antes posible para poder estar a su lado, pero el pronóstico no es bueno. Y nos hemos quedado con una deuda impagable ante el Centro Médico Toluca. Esta es la realidad de los seguros, no se puede confiar en ninguno, al menos en México.

<div>I’m writing to you with some very heavy news. As some of you know, my dad, Juan Antonio, has been dealing with kidney failure for a year due to diabetes and needs weekly dialysis. Part of that process requires a catheter in his chest, which unfortunately carries a huge risk of infection. Things have taken a turn for the worst. The catheter got infected, leading to sepsis and endocarditis caused by an unidentified, very aggressive bacteria. It is literally the worst-case scenario for an infection.

<div>Shortly after Christmas, my dad was low on energy and having trouble walking, so we checked him into Centro Médico Toluca expecting a quick recovery. We never imagined the clinical nightmare that would follow. While the hospital provides specialized care, it is a private facility and incredibly expensive.

<div>We had insurance that we thought would cover the costs, but after several days, they denied our claim. The days keep passing with no discharge date in sight, and the bill has already climbed to half a million pesos.

<div>My dad is currently stable and is being transferred to ISSEMYM to continue fighting the bacteria. I am heading back to Mexico as soon as possible to be by his side, but the prognosis is not good. We are now left with an unpayable debt to the hospital. This is the harsh reality of insurance—you just can't trust them, at least not in Mexico.

<div>It’s so hard for me to come on social media and ask for help, but I have no other choice.
