Simba's Surgery

Let me start by telling you about our sweet cat, Simba. Simba was born February 12th, 2014. In March,2014  he suffered from several seizures and was paralyzed on his left side. We did not think he would survive but from love from his sister and us, determination, and strong will he made a full recovery. Simba is a strong, curious, and fast cat.

On March 28th, 2015 we had a yard sale at our house. It was a very hectic day and we were running in and out of the house. Simba snuck out into the garage and then ran in the yard. Simba has never been outside alone before and I am sure he was quite scared. Nathan noticed Simba was missing and began to look for him.

We found our Simba scared and injured in our neighbors yard, seconds after being hit by a car. We rushed Simba to his primary veterinarian where He was examined & X-rayed. Luckily his abdomen and organs were unharmed. His femur however broke in two. To make matters worse the break happened at the hip joint, the ball of his femur is in the hip socket. His vet explained that the needed procedure was beyond the scope of their practice and referred us to a local 24/7 care center, with an orthopedic veterinary surgeon on staff. Our vet got us a rough estimate of the expected cost with a worst case scenario of $2800. $300 for weekend care, as the surgeon was not available until Monday. Up to $2500 for the surgery, we immediately took Simba to the clinic upon departing his vet.

We arrived at the clinic, they were expecting Simba and promptly took him back to perform their exam and review His x-rays. Soon His attending vet came and spoke with me, She reviewed his x-rays and noticed concerns in his hip that needed farther measures to accurately diagnose. She explained that this is only what she saw and could not offer anything definite as that would be the job of the surgeon. She felt strongly though that the surgeon would recommend an additional hip surgery. She was not in position to give me an exact estimate, but she expressed that it could easily run in excess of $7500, if not more. She did however know the cost of the weekend care, with the adjusted cost of care for a possible hip issue; it would run close to $1000. The attending vet did give us the option of taking Simba home for weekend care. We choose that option in order to save some money. The sent us home with pain meds and care instructions, Simba is resting comfortably under the constant watch of his BFF & Nurse Kitty Periwinkle. He has an Appointment Monday afternoon with the surgeon.

We are committed to getting our sweet Simba the care he needs to overcome this. We don’t know the long term cost, we don’t know the short term cost yet. We know we are about to spend all our money, and it isn’t going to be enough. We need your help.

Simba is the sweetest little kitty you will ever meet. He has timeless soul and radiant personality. He is brave, strong, and facing these circumstance with dignity. Simba has a love of life that is truly inspirational. When he was fighting for life at a young age, as he was laying there in seizure after seizure I promised him “keep fighting buddy and I will make sure you have comfortable happy life”.  Simba needs your help.
