Medical expenses for Ian

Meet my sister’s child, Ian. He is a happy boy considering all that he has been through since he arrived. Born at only 25 weeks on January 8th, 2017, Ian did not have a good chance of surviving. The amazing team at McMaster Children’s Hospital did everything they could, which included 5 major surgeries and countless other procedures. Ian is a fighter and finally came home 8 months later still requiring a feeding tube, oxygen and multiple medications every day.
Ian’s battle is far from over. After spending so much time in the NICU on his back, his skull has not formed correctly. Ian’s condition is called “plagiocephaly” and can be corrected using an adjustable helmet. My sister Laura and her husband D’rcy have been through a lot this year and are not financially able to manage this extra expense, which is not covered by OHIP. This is not something that can be corrected later in life, they must act now. As friends and family members of Laura and D’rcy, we believe it is time to solicit support in relieving some of the mounting financial pressures on this couple. Our support will go far in allowing them to continue to focus their full efforts on Ian’s full recovery.
Anything you are able to contribute in this regard will go a long way in assisting this family, clearly showing they are not alone as they face the difficult and challenging road ahead. Thank you beforehand for opening your hearts and offering to help Ian James, our little fighter.
