WAYNE NEEDS HIS ANGELS

One second . . . that’s all it took . . . and the life of a family has been changed forever!

Three weeks ago, my brother-in-law, Wayne Pantley slipped on ice while visiting friends and broke his back in two places, becoming paralyzed immediately. One second, and now he’s a quadriplegic. You hear about horrific accidents like this but you never think it could happen to you or the ones you love.

Wayne was airlifted to a trauma center and is now at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s spinal cord rehab center to deal with his life-altering injuries. His life will never be the same!  He is now going through extensive rehab therapy six days a week to learn how to operate a wheel chair with his mouth, train his bowels to go regularly, and learn how to use a computer. But mostly, he is just learning to accept what may be his new life.

My sister, Robin, has been a pillar of strength, trying to keep their young son’s day-to-day life as normal as possible. She is now dealing with the insurmountable issues involved with supporting Wayne and providing for a quadriplegic – as well as moving forward without Wayne’s sole income.

In addition to facing the challenge of purchasing all the equipment to make the house functional for Wayne, they also need to determine how to support his long-term care that he will need on a daily basis for the rest of his life.  At this point, we don’t know all what lies ahead, but we do realize it will be a difficult and costly road ahead.

We are a small family and all live out of state.   We are trying to do our best to visit and provide assistance through this difficult time. We’re all grateful to the wonderful friends who are stepping up to help them and many of you have also asked us how you can help. In addition to your prayers, we are setting up this fund and asking for any assistance you can provide to help purchase the needed equipment that will allow Wayne to return home.

We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts - you are the angels that will help us through this journey.
