Help Fund Jasmine's USC MSW Tuition

Hello, my name is Jasmine Hermosillo, and I am a graduating senior at California State University, Northridge. As a first-generation high school graduate, a bachelor’s degree was not an accomplishment I had foreseen in my future. I was fascinated by the thought of college but never saw it as an achievable milestone in my lifetime. Despite having no guidance in post-high school education, I decided to apply and managed to get accepted into the undergraduate program at CSUN (among other schools) as a sociology major. Temporarily working full-time to working multiple part-time jobs while simultaneously being a full-time student and participating in internships, I managed to avoid the need for loans and maintain my GPA. This May, I will receive my bachelor’s degree in Sociology to progress me towards my goal of becoming a Social Worker.

Recently, I was accepted into the two-year Master’ s of Social Work program at the University of Southern California for the Department of Social Change and Innovation (SCI). Aware of the financial demands of higher education, I view this next step as a necessary investment in my future. Obtaining a graduate education will enhance my skill set, allow for networking, build on-hand experience, and qualify me for a broader range of opportunities. Although social work is not a lucrative field, a master’s degree would improve my salary by opening doors for higher paying positions. Based on the demand for experienced social workers, a master’s program allows me to complete large amounts of field hours before graduation, making me a competent fit for future employers.

The Cost:

The estimated cost for the two-year program based on the 2018-2019 academic year

Semester 1: 15 units ($27,660)

Semester 2: 17 units ($27, 660)

Semester 3: 14 units ($26, 082)

Semester 4: 14 units ($26,082)

TOTAL 60 UNITS ($107,484)

I am aware that the $107,484 is a large and possibly unrealistic goal; however, any amount to decrease the need for a loan is greatly appreciated!
