Jameson's Journey
Hi, my name is Courtney Collins and I am a friend and coworker of Autumn LeBu. Recently, at Autumn's 20 week ultrasound with baby Jameson, she found out that he is diagnosed with CDH which is Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. This means that the baby has a hole in his diaphragm, which has allowed parts of his intestines, liver and stomach to enter his chest cavity. Due to these organs being in his chest cavity, his lungs have been unable to develop normally. Jameson could potentially have to have a FETO (Fetoscopic Endoluminal Tracheal Occlusion) surgery. This procedure would happen between 27-31 weeks, if Jameson remains as a candidate. During this process a small incision will be made on Autumn's belly and uterus. After that, an instrument is guided through the incision and into Jameson's trachea. A balloon is then inserted and inflated to block the trachea in hopes that the pressure will promote lung development. Autumn and the baby will have weekly or bi-weekly ultrasounds to monitor the babies process. By 34 weeks, Autumn and Jameson would undergo another surgery to remove the balloon. During this time, Autumn and family will have several trips to and from Cincinnati, potential relocation costs during the surgeries, and a large amount of medical bills before and after Jameson is born. Autumn and her husband Tyler only have a limited amount of paid time off, so this money would also help finance their normal living expenses. Once Jameson is born, he will undergo another surgery to fix the hole and may have an extended stay in the NICU. After his extended stay, due to various complications that could occur due to his condition, Jameson would have several check ups a month to monitor progress.
