<div>Since around Christmas time I’ve been back and forth with the doctors/hospital with pains in my abdomen and losing weight and being unable to eat without vomiting. Long story short after months of being dismissed and sent home with lansoprazole I was referred to the non specific symptoms pathway. I wasn’t aware this was a cancer pathway until I went to my appointment. They sent me for a scan down my throat which is called an endoscopy. After that me and Callum (my fiancé) were taken into a room and told they were very concerned what they had found was cancer. Fast forward to Friday 13th of June and we have a meeting with surgical outpatients at st James hospital so us none the wiser believed we were going to talk about treatment as if to surgically remove any potential cancer.

<div>In that room, my whole world crumbled. I was told I have a rare and aggressive form of gastric cancer named ‘<strong>linitus plastica</strong>’ it’s also spread through lymph nodes and into other parts of my internal organs. They can see abnormalities on my lungs but are unsure whether this is cancer until further tests have been done.

<div>Then I heard the world ‘<strong>incurable</strong>’ and all I thought of was <strong>Arlo</strong>. How can this be happening when <strong>I have a 2 year old son</strong>. I think I even laughed and asked Callum if what they were saying was real. I think I went through every emotion you could think of in the space of 5 minutes. But it is real, and the fact of it is I have stage 4 terminal cancer and I don’t know how long I have left.

<div>People with this type of cancer are typically 70/80 years old and I’m 28. They can’t understand how I have this type of cancer so young so I’ve agreed to do genetic testing. The life expectancy with how aggressive this type of cancer is, is typically a year.

<div>I’m young, I’m healthy other than the weight loss and I’m full of fight. I start chemo in a couple of weeks which can potentially slow the growth of the cancer down and I might be eligible for a clinical trial we’re just waiting for one more set of results. People really need to see life for what it is because it’s beautiful and we all spend so much time worrying about things that don’t even matter. Tomorrow is never promised, hold your loved ones closer and just embrace life.
