Homeless Family

Donation protected
I am Elaine Housen-Reid. I am the older sister of a sibling group of 8. I now live in the UK and my family live in Jamaica. I was born in Jamaica.

On 18 March 2020 my family (sisters) home in Clarendon, Jamaica burnt down leaving at least 15 people homeless including several children under the age of 12. As a family member, my sister and her daughter who lives in the USA, her son in Canada, and myself have been helping them financially. However, due to the Covid-19 virus, I have now lost my full-time job and my sister is now only working part-time.  We are struggling financially and finding it hard to fund the rebuilding project. The children are displaced and living all over the community with strangers which I find perturbing because they should be with their parents. I have more photos of the burnt-out property and the new build which is now at a standstill due to lack of funds.

I am asking for financial assistance to help them finish the building so that they will not still be homeless at Christmas.

This is the article that was published in the Jamaica Gleaner and they did receive some help but we have simply run out of money in order to finish the building.

However small you can give will be much appreciated.  I do understand and appreciate that we are all finding life difficult in this time of uncertainty.

Thank you very much
